i have a 78 5040 that when backing uphill or downhill the reverse on the high side pops out. ( i have a 6 speed trans.) Is this common? I dont believe it does it when it is on flat ground.

It may not be shifting the rail far enough in high range, it is shifting the same rail in high and low but the lever is in different shift lugs. You might pull the top and look at the shift rails and lugs and how they line up. the shift rails are in trans housing, all that is in the top is the lever. I never heard of one doing this. Had one that would try to come out of high range when you were slowing down to stop in road gear. It sounded like a slip clutch on a combine slipping. |
