Well, I finally broke something on my 4wd 5020 that’s expensive and/or hard to find. Plowing a field last weekend my right front caught a couple of times instead of spinning free. I nursed it back to the barn to diagnose and it’s not pretty.
The inside u-joint deteriorated, taking the coupler/carden(?) joint with it. The large bearing between the two housings came apart in the process, and some metal got down into the gear area and broke a tooth off of the larger of the drive gears at the hub as well. Parts are expensive, if I can find them. The coupler and larger gear I am having zero luck with. I’ve called a couple people in Michigan with salvage tractors in hope of swapping the whole assembly but no one has 4wd parts lying around. Has anyone tried making a 4wd a 2wd with any luck? I feel if I replace the best songs around the large gear and remove the smaller gear and U-joints I would have a functional 2wd tractor instead of a non-functional 4wd. Thoughts? If anyone has a lead on a right hub/axle assembly in or around Michigan I would appreciate that as well. Or a lead on where to get the coupler and u-joints. It’s a 1984. |

I bought a Massey Ferguson 220 4WD.same tractor as an AC 5030 in about the same breakage condition as your 5020.I took the 2WD front end off a parts 5020 I have and put them on the MF 220.Pretty simple switch just left the 4WD gearbox in place.

Interesting that the Allis 5030 was never offered in 4WD, but the same tractor in MF was.
