Started it and the oil light came on. Pulled the filler cap off the valve cover and no oil getting up to the head. Shut down and hauled to the shop.
This engine has an oil pump on the side of the block. Couldn't be any easier to work on. Pulled the pump and it seems as though it pumps when turning the gear by hand. I have a parts tractor so pulled the pump on it and it seems comparable to the other one. Put other pump on with a new oil filter and started. Still no oil to head. Pulled the oil pan off, inspected oil pick up tube and screen, looked at shaft and gear that drives the pump, everything seems okay. This engine is very clean inside as though it's been rebuilt at some time. There were a few specks of metal in the pan. I did over heat it twice from chaff on the radiator in the recent past. What do you guys in the know think is my problem?

Forgot to mention the new oil filter didn't have a drop of oil on it after we switched pumps and started.
