It seems John Deere is going to build a new state of the art facility to manufacture pay-loaders and excavators, in China. I will leave the rest out because this is not the political forum.

Never had any luck with JD construction equipment. With any luck at all, the equipment will reside in China.

John Deere has realized the importance of developing strategic alliances and has partnered with Hitachi and Bell Equipment to strengthen its product offerings. In 1988, Deere-Hitachi Construction Machinery was formed. John Deere hydraulic excavators are produced by Deere-Hitachi Construction Machinery in Kernersville, N.C. and Saltillo, Mexico.
In 1998, Deere-Hitachi formed Deere-Hitachi Specialty Products (DHSP). In 1999, DHSP began shipping crawler based forestry machines out of its facility in Vancouver, British Columbia.
In March 1999, the Construction & Forestry Division formed a strategic alliance with Bell Equipment, Richards Bay, South Africa. Under the agreement, John Deere has exclusive marketing rights to Bell manufactured articulated dump trucks in North, Central, and South America.
In March of 2005 John Deere and Bell expanded their strategic alliance and in July 2005 the first articulated dump truck rolled off the line at the Davenport Works Factory.

Wasn't there a press release a few months ago about AGCO building a big plant in China? With over a billion people wanting to eat and live better, China is where it's at in the ag business, not to speak construction equipment.

There is a lot to this, most of it centers around free trade and political boundaries. Every major world corporation is in China or wants to be in China. Growth wise it is where the action is. A couple billion people that want to have a better life and are willing to work for it.
Caterpillar is there, but very little of that equipment goes to export, it all stays in China. I think the same is true for most of the other companies that are there.

This is another balloon, the housing market there is in chaos, the college grads are having trouble finding work if at all and the entire economic engine hovers just at collapse. Good luck to all those companies headed there as it may be a one way road.

I just figure as soon as the new factory is up and working the production facilities in the US will suddenly become outdated so all production will be moved to the new plant. Heck I worked at a brand new facility for CAT in 1982 and they had the same production set-up in Grenoble, France. When both lines were reduced to 35% of capabilities, they closed the plant here and moved all production to France. Charlie

Just about all the smaller excavators , under 60,000 lb are made somewhere else. Korea was the biggest source for many with joint ventures with about every company.
JD and Hatichi have been the same machine for years just the paint is different and engine installed in unit. Same with FiatAllis (New Holland) and many other names you think are US. Case excavators have come from France for years.

Last Komatsu dozer I ran jerked and banged worse than the JD machines I have run.
Was looking at Komatsu on jobsite son was on and with 2 joysticks now instead of levers more like video game than heavy equipment. Each lever has several functions and controls on it so like setting in easy chair and working. far cry from my HD5 with feet, hand and levers to do each function. Then FD5 is a step up with just pedal and wobble stick and power shift.

I agree with you coke,I tell all the kids at work if you like bells&whistles,CD,DVD,heated seat, stereo, air etc. run the ratsu.if you want production cat also resale is about 50% higher for domestic machines 1000-10000hrs and i also never cared for the 45,55,65 direct drive on komatsu dozers. our new manitowoc built by kobelco cranes when you read the load charts there are boom failure * rather than tipping rates.American terex built in japan and here are all tipping rates.back in the 70s I ran a HD 21 a nice tractor but it always had torque converter trouble or final drive trouble. the old cat D8 ran everyday.
