This sound weird but I can pickup a 5.9 cummins and I am thinking what AC tractor would this be awesome in. So I am letting you guys tell me. Yes it may be weird but I am a big AC fan and just able to get a 5.9 for a great price. So even if the tractor I find is in terrible shape it will be worth putting the 5.9 in and making a cool tractor. I am thinking D series but any allis tractor would be cool.
thanks guys just having fun dreaming

They work good in 190-200 or 7000-7010-7020. MACK

IMO, it'd be hard to justify putting one in a D21... taking out a 7.0L to put in a 5.9L...
But putting one in something that had a four... and a transmission and rearend that was strong enough to take the 5.9 diesel... that's a tough combination though. |

I understand that but the 5.9 is a pump version so I may change it over to A pump but this is going to be worked on a little farm kinda be a toy but still want it to beable to work. I dont mind pushing the hp.
guys keep putting ideas out. thanks for the reply

I agree that a 5.9 Cummins would be awesome in an Allis. A D-19 or 190 would be a good candidate. I put one in my Ford pickup. Out with the Powerstroke in with the Cummins! I love it and don't regret doing it at all.

D19 would be cool I have a 301 AC engine that i was dreaming about putting in a PU.
The 190 already has an awsome engine.
David G, what did you have to do to put the 5.9 in the Ford? What tranney did you use? and what about the electronics? It looks like 6.0 liter fords are easy to find cheap since the 6.0 has so many problems.

D19 with the 5.9. I like that idea. How much hp can the tractor handle. Clutch upgrade would be needed

There is a 8030 ps very near me with a 5.9 in it. Air to air intercooler and all. I have heard it working and it sounded good to me. I bet it will pull with my 8030 that has the 426 in it too. They are a good engine, I have several Dodge trucks with them.

I think you should be thinking 7000, 7010 or 7020. They can be bought cheap and the drive train is going to handle the hp better. Remember the early XTs had issues with too much hp tearing up rear ends so a 19 or 190 wouldn't be a good choice.
I don't know why a 7030, 7050, 7040 or 7060 wouldn't work either. I think you can find one with a blown motor relativly easily.

I would go with one of the smaller sized 7000 series. They have a pretty descent cab, so it would be a pretty use-able tractor. D 19's, in my opinion, are getting "collect-able", and should be left original, so I wouldn't use a D 19. And as someone else stated, a 7000 series with a blown motor would probably be your cheapest option. Darrel

The only thing I am going to say is that we had a guy bring us an Oliver 1750 with a 5.9 in it. The guy had it turned up to 140 HP and could not keep the PTO in it, we fixed it once for him and twice after that to try and make him happy but it didnt hold. So what ever you do make sure and set the HP back to close to factory because that is what the tractor transmission and rearend was designed to hold. Other than that the 5.9 is a great motor and would be a neat project.

Low side 140 all the way up to easy 500 and more with some other mods. You can run them with 500-550 all day long

I used a 12 valve so there is only 1 wire required for the engine to run. As far as gauges go I used the ford temp and oil sending units from the powerstroke (used adapter bushings). Currently, I am using the Ford ZF 5 speed tranny. I have a NV4500 that I have plans to swap in soon. It sounds like a complicated task but it wasn't all that bad. There are companies out there who specialize in these types of swaps. They sell adapter plates and mounts, they even have a booklet that tells how to do it. |

A 24valve VP engine is 235-245hp and its possible to find a wiring harness so it will run without the truck, going to put one in a couple of other tractors, One DDH Cletrac and a TD9 international (international probably wont last long with it in there, but I want to test the "weak finals" belief)

A few years back when my brother's 8070 shucked a rod through the side he repowered with a Cummins but I don't know what size. It had more power than the 426 and was more fuel efficient. I'll find out the size.

Put a 5.9 at 500 hp into a big enough farm tractor to make use of 500 hp and the 5.9 will soon grenade. In a farm tractor, a later model 5.9 might be OK up to 200 hp--------which would be enough to destroy the drivetrain in 190's, D21's and anything smaller than a 7060 or 8050. If you can buy a 5.9 at a good enough price (and it's in good condition), look for a 7050, 7080, 8050, or 8070 and you would end up with a good unit. If you put it in something smaller, make sure the hp is dialed back to near stock hp (or leave the weight of the tractor at what it has been at in the past). How would the drive train in an 8070 like an 8.3 cummins? Would you worry if it was turning 190-200hp? The 5.9 is a good engine but I'd rather have a bigger cube engine making 500hp over the 5.9 doing the same. Something about torque and longevity.

I wonder what the 5.9's torque curve looks like at various hp settings.

It would likely be fine-----especially if you kept the rated rpm at 2200-2400. Some versions of the 8.3 could make 200 hp at lower rpms---------that could spell trouble to the transmission if used there. You have to remember that it is torque (not hp) that kills gear trains. |
