Checking over engine bay before harvest on the f2. Noticed the fan/alternator belt was loose. Upon further inspection, the fan pulley is quite wiggly. I assume a water pump replacement is in order before a fan ends up in the radiator. Can just the bearings be replaced or is it a whole unit replacement? Any tips to getting bolts out without snapping them off? Looks like they`ve been in the block since 1979. Thanx

Easier to replace the whole unit. For taking out the bolts, spray them with penetrating oil a few days before you plan to take the pump off. Personally, I like to use a socket with L handle and use a wooden mallet on the L handle to jolt the bolt loose.

I had to replace the water pump on our F2 last year. The bolts were original. Amazingly enough, they came out real easy. The replacement can be done with the radiator on the machine, but it is a lot easier to do it with the Radiator off.
I used a socket and ratchet to break the fan belt bolts, and the water pump bolts. Then I used a wrench to remove the fan bolts. It was very tight, but I was able to take the fan and four bolts out from the Radiator shroud, without loosening or removing the radiator. Then I was able to remove the pump easily. As I recall, the bottom back bolt was a little difficult to reach or see? Replacement is the reverse. I agree that replacing the entire unit is easiest. It is not worth the hassle of replacing bearings. |

Thanks for the info. I see in agco parts book a '' kit '' shows up as a complete pump assembly with gaskets. From what i can see on engine, the kit doesn't have enough gaskets. Gonna see what the dealer has to offer
