If you have a complete engine, sell it as-is. Now, what's wrong with it ?? The condition of the crankshaft thrust area is an important area before sinking a bunch of $$$$$ into it. How many HOURS are on it?? Why is it available for sale without a tractor ??

Sooo, it's been in a fire  ??    Sell it as-is and it's not worth much like it is.

best i can say water got down the stack, then it sat in shop for serveral years no one drove it and i decided on day that i wanted to get it running and then the flywheel wouldnt turn. so my dad said id have to take the cover off and see whats going on its cracked valve. so instead of overhauling it then i search everywhere and counldnt find anything for 5 months and then finally found one guy had to pay 6k for 2wd one. finally got it back to our farm and then i swapped over the engines. my grandfathers one that had cracked valve is 4WD and has loader so that why i swapped em. my thing is i went through hell & high water to find one and it took me months and feel like theyre pretty hard to find. so option 1 is i fixed it up and keep it as a backup engine or i sell it. because to get it the way i want it ( doing it right) i think its gonna be 3-5 grand not including labor. and think about flipping it for 8 grand and wheather you think thats a reasonable price?

They are normally an 8,000 to 10,000 hr engine when cared for.  I think you'll never ever get 8K for a rebuilt engine. That's just my opinion.
