I took the old gal in to get the front end ligned up. They called me this afternoon and said they found the rubber hose on the right rear brake caliper collapsed inside. I'm sure glad the boys found it. This hill to the west of my drive might have been fun getting down it after that rotten old snow mochine gets to working this winter. Grandson started working for these folks a few weeks ago. I thought it would be a learning experience if he drove it in and at least watched them do the job. I always wanted 1 when we owned the tire shop, but never had someone to operate it. My tire machine in my farm shop has quit working. I am toying with buying a new one.

Yes it is. It should also be mandated in the high school curriculum good "industrial arts" classes be taught.

Was watching a video of guy that got a Harbor Freight cheap manual tire changer , he ended up bending most of the tools and his opinion JUNK - do not buy at any price

Most of the videos of guys don't actually know
the proper way to change a tire. They don't lube the right side of the last bead.
There are some people that could wreck an anvil with a rubber mallet.
I have a Harbor Freight tire machine. Granted they could be a little heavier built, but they do the job if you know what you are doing.

If your old tire machine is in good shape other than lacking power or leaking down, they can be rebuilt, I put all new seals and hoses on an older Coats machine I had, I recently sold it in good working condition cause I didn't use it that often a friend bought it so I can use it when I need it. A hydraulic shop could probably rebuild your machine if you didn't want to tackle it, not difficult, just time consuming to rebuild.

The HF tire changer is like ANY other piece of equipment,you can only abuse it for so long and it'll break. USE it properly and it'll outlive you. Mine is close to 20 years old,done dozens of tires on it. Mounted it onto a support that slid onto the forklift forks as I didn't have any 'extra' room in the garage to bolt it down on the floor.

There's been several generations of HF tire changer. I have one anchor'd to the floor down in the diary barn, and I used it plenty, and will probably use it again...
But I sure like my power changer. ;-)
Jay's suggestion about putting it on forks is a good'n... another way is to weld it to a big flat plate with a pair of legs on one plane, that forks can SLIP UNDER... and then pour a concrete ballast ring around the bottom. IF the plate is large enough for you to be standing ON, it doesn't take much ballast to steady it.

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

I've used my harbor frieght manual tire changer many times it bolted to a 4x4 piece of 3/4" plywood. When not in use it tucks up close to my work bench. The beas breaker could be a little stronger but it works OK ive swapped a couple load range E tires on it but mostly car and lawn mower tires. I also have cheep harbor frieght tire irons. You need those for lawnmower tires. I usually take the vehicle to work we've got new machines there but it's nice to be able to do at home if needed
