For some strange reason my work truck is really eating front wheel bearing assemblies. I replaced the original assembly on the passenger side about 1 year ago. I had to replace it only 6 months later! Now the same one is going out again!! I buy quality parts at NAPA and use great care when installing. What could be the reason the original one lasted 19 years and now I will be replacing it for the 3rd time in a year?? Thanks in advance!! Ryan

MOST of the aftermarket wheel hubs/ bearings are made in china... Quality control is a problem.. I have had them last 6 months, and 6 years...... You can look around and SPECIFY that the hub have a TIMKEN bearing and that might help..... Another question is the installation....axle shaft nut should be torqued to about 200 ft pounds with a ratchet or breaker bar.. DO NOT use an impact.... and tighten the nut PRIOR to setting the tire back on the ground.. It must be in the air when tightened.

Friend of Mine used to buy his at Oreilly's, had two price range replacement parts so he bought the cheaper, until they ran out and had to buy the more expensive. That bearing assembly has outlasted THREE cheaper units for same miles driven.

Had same issue with Silverado 2500 HD Got tired of changing every
year. Bought SKF bearing this time. They told me 3 year warranty.

Definitely use the name brand bearing over the el cheapo Chinese part. The next thing is stay out of the deep water. On bearings that have a wheel speed sensor with an internal tone ring I like to give them a nice shot of 80-90 through the sensor hole to keep the grease in the bearing semi liquid.

I stopped buying the cheap Napa bearing they never lasted. I realize there is a big price difference between cheap and premium but I have found it to be worth it.
Also find your torque spec for your vehicle. 200 sounds a bit high for Ford. I can't remember all of the specs as I do many bearings a month.
Good advice was given to torque your beating with it off the ground.
Is your knuckle nice clean so that the bearing can slide in nice and easy?

I was prepared to buy a new one but Napa was able to look up my purchases on their computer. They were really cool about it and even gave me the more expensive one for free with exchange of my cheaper one. Hopefully this one lasts. Ryan

Yes but the problem is that if you do not do it yourself they will put on the garbage chink wheel bearings and you will be back to get another one and the labour kills you.,Just buy a SKF,TIMKEN or another quality
bearing and save your self alot of cash.JMO

Gerry, not every shop will sell the cheap junk. Only the shops that want to make all the money and don't care about customer satisfaction.
I've lost a lot of business because I won't settle for cheap junk.

Years ago I had a Dodge 1500 4x4 in for a front axle seal leak on the drivers side. They (independent shop) informed me of a bearing failure that let the axle bottom out and destroy the seal. They insisted that to replace the drivers side, the passenger side should also be replaced at the same time  . Is there any truth to this ??

NO............ but if you have HIGH MILEAGE on old bearings, it might be good preventative maint.

some.... consider that if the bearings came from the same 'batch' then the right one will probably fail , sooner than later.
We hear this ALL the time, 100s of 1,000s of vehicles being recalled due to a bad batch of 'things'.
