;  Your gonna need 2 turbos on a 301 to make it any thing close to competitive  ; then with that big of gap in the cubic inch ; 510 to 301, you may see about putting a 426 in it , some clubs will let you ;  Its gonna cost a bunch of $$$$$ ; and you still will be behind ; a P pump and turbo,s around ten grand for good stuff !!

I know where there is a 426 that is affordable, complete, and just what you need to get the "base" powerplant you need. It may even have a german crank in it as a bonus. Seller was told it is ready to run [ by previous seller], he has no way to verify this [ does not want to spend time either]. It is located in NY.

Go to this web sight  www.thefewtheproudtheorange.com.  or go to www.pulloff.com  Sometimes you can find a turn key set up on there for cheaper than you can build.

Best of luck!

I wouldnt say ...no way... but its going to be an extreme up hill battle at the least. I have built 301 into pullers in a farm cheater class (unofficail name) and we competed with 466 JD and 466 IH engines shoe horned into smaller tractors like 766 or 4020, and we could walk them with out alot of problems, however just so you are aware when a 301 walks a 466 JD or IH be prepared for a fight because IH and JD guys do not take getting beat very kindly!!!!!!!!!!. My opinion of putting a 426 in would be a better idea, but than again a IH or JD guy putting a 466 in a 4010-20 or a DT 466 in 766 etc seems exceptable but when there is a hint that a 301 has been swapped with a 426 these guys cry FOWL. Been there done that, Allis Chalmers is not a welcome sight in the pulling world. Which personally makes it more fun .

I found the same thing when my D17 was ruling the farm stock 6,500# and 7,500# classes and trophied often in the classic non stock classes. That really bothered them that my old rusty stock 17 could beat their shiny hopped up Deeres. Your friends disappear quickly in the pulling world. Even had to dyno my tractor special to prove it was stock. I never bragged about my tractor to any of these guys but put up with a lot of put downs. There were a few good guys who didn't mind my 17 doing well but most turned a cold shoulder. That's the biggest reason I left the pulling world after about 7 or 8 years.

I agree with Dr. Allis.  It took us two turbos to compete with 407ci limit here.  My advice...   Get yourself a 210 or 220 out of a boneyard and go from there.

X4  I agree, there's no way for a 301 with 1 charger to compete with 510's! Even if you have endless supply of money!

Old school thinking says it cant be done, the old no replacement for displacement theory, which from a money stand point does hold some water, but today cu in can be replaced unfortunatly its replaced with money, and lots of it. 466,DT's ford 401-476 can be beat by a 301 but its not easy, and as every puller should know it takes more than power to get to the end, its a combination of things, tire size, brand ,inflation, balance ,hitch   point, driver skills  track, etc etc etc. A few years back a guy asked if his 210 could out pull a 6030 everyone  that responded said there was no way, except in reality he beat it. Nothing is impossible but its an uphill battle. When the 301 I  built was out running there were  4 301's 2-185 1-180 and a 200 they were all pretty close to the one I built one had a inline pump, one had a ambac, and 2 rosa's they all pulled the best in the 7500# area give or take 500 # and the funny thing is if they all showed up for the same pull, the AC's would be 1-2-3 the order would change some times but they would always hold the top spots.

A 200 is a good choice for pulling  ;  you are gonna put alot of power into 18.4-38 inch rubber ; to bad you cant run 24.5-32,s !!!! You will have to gear it straight thru , but that aint no big deal ; go to MSTPA .com ; Jere Setter advertises on there , they run the Orange Crush tractor and run very well ; he works on alot of 301,s and can help a bunch , he,s a super nice guy and will steer you right ;  AC,S LUV MULTIPLE CHARGERS - MORE AIR -  thats the only way you may keep up

Yes,lot's and lots of money! Wouldn't take as many dollars using a 426. And all of us AC lovers, love it when they beat the red and green ones. But Oranges ones need a much bigger pocket book to be competitive! Or some sponsors to help with one. :)

Good luck with it! and keep us posted on your progress.

Do what you wish.  As soon as the 510's spend the same money you did on the 301, those 200 cubic inches are gonna put you behind 25ft on the track.  This is coming from a guy who has pulled his whole life as the underdog.  Sorry!

Replace the PD with a coupler and you will have HI range only, which is actually direct drive. Low range is actually an underdrive in each gear......

Just to be straight here, it takes more money to make an Allis competitve, not because its  an allis its because the JD & IH guys have riverside and hypermax spending bu-ku bucks making red and green run. The last real AC man(Noble Harris) that had the time money and company backing for AC has been dead for years, and everyone else in the AC pulling field has to start from scratch to get the job done. There isnt very many off the shelf, or out of date pulling technology to buy for an Allis Chalmers, which ups the cost substainally . Max SImpson has some of the answers but most of the problems have to be trial and error and one off parts that ups the price and time it takes to make an AC pull. However as much as the main stream pullers hate to see an Allis Chalmers, deep down they all know its lightning in a can, just waiting for the right combination to be let out, and the crowds specailly the older gents just love the site of a an Allis Chalmers out on the track dominating again. Make no mistake though its an up hill battle, but  it is fun when you get it right, but never finacially.

Part of me says a 200 is rare enough not to mess with it.  The rare sheet metal parts and the mechanical goodies early 190 owners wish for should be considered in choosing the actual tractor/pieces used to make your puller.   You can make a pile of preferred for pulling parts into a "200" with decals and paint too--only the allis fans will know what's different :)

Back in the 70's and 80's there was a guy from our area here who ran a 180 diesel for pulling.  That thing was very competitive and at the state pulls he would beat 210's and D-21's all the time with the 180.  I wouldn't say your idea can't be done, it just takes the time, the know-how, and of course the money.  Good luck in your venture.

If you get a 180-190-200 to consistently beat up D21's, IH1066's, etc......they aren't trying very hard. Cubic inches make "X" ammount of HP and when you have way less cubes than they do you will always be behind.

650 plus...   Really?  Who's rules would that even fit into?  Heard of only a handful of motors build to 640 to pull superfarm and only a couple lasted over a year.
