I looked at a 7020 owner has passed so there isnt any history.
It shows 1555 hours but meter is broke, the owner had it for the last 20 years plus.
No rust.
There is little wear on draw bar and hydraulic levers are very tight next to my 7050 with 4500 hrs. He had 80 acres and appeared to be a hobby farmer.
The cab is a mess no broken glass, knobs missing, cover for instrument lights missing, some wires are spliced and exposed, motor oil very dirty, motor and transmission complete oiley dirt, to the point it's impossible to see wear oil leaks are.
Tranmission oil 3 inches over full mark?
No front weights.
Engine starts hard and smokes alot I mean alot of black smoke sounds like it is missing also.
It is a power shift model all gears work. Tires like new, dual are 40%.
My question:
1) Is the power shift reliable?
2) If there is a trans problem what is the difficulty in repairing.
3) What is a tractor like this worth?
Any advise would be great.

Those power shifts are bullet proof. I wouldnt offer a whole lot, you could spend alot in the motor. Overhaul, injection pump and injectors, might as well have the head done while you have it apart. If it is smoking a lot like you say. Is the turbo out of it ?

Well I can tell you this, salvage yard "inspected" (which typically means it's been power washed) engines run from $2500 and up, most are $3000.00
As far as the trans, I agree, the P/S trans is very durable. They can be costly to repair, it depends if you are just into it for gaskets, seals, friction discs, and nuts, or are you into it with hard parts as well. Hard parts are starting to get harder to find, and therefor more costly. It's not an easy task to rebuild the trans, but it is doable, special tools aren't extreme, and you can make some of them easy enough. I don't know about cost in your neck of the woods, but I would say the new tires, add around $1200.00 in value, depending on size, (unless they were put on yesterday, they won't add the full new tire price to the value) the engine issues subtract maybe $2000.00, since it at least runs. I would say that a good running field ready 7020 should bring around 7-10K. In the Nebraska area, a few auctions lately the 7000 series have really fallen off in price. I think this is due to the recent disaster of AGCO, and worry about parts availability. So you be the judge, sorry it's just too hard to guess with your money. :-)

I have 2 and like them both. that being said; one reason i like them is it don't brake the bank to buy them. i bought one of mine about 3yrs ago and gave 5k for it. PS and really nice tires. i put the loader off my PD 7020 on it and love it. could be an injector that needs cleaning could be the miss. A good diesel machine shop can plane the head if need be; just enuff where you don't need to spend tons of cash on it.

sounds to me like it mostly needs a little TLC. I'd love to have a 7020 myself some day. In my opinion, if you could pick er up for 5 K or less you would be into it all right. Not to say that going over that would be a bad thing, But you might want to check out some of the issues a little closer before doing so. Just my 2 cents worth. Darrel
