Hello,
My user manual calls for ESN-M 2C 53-A Axle Oil for the rear end of my 715B Backhoe loader. What does that translate to in modern day oil? Some say regular gear oil, witch I could believe since it is just a beefed up version on a truck rear end.
But I just wanted to make sure

They must have not used SAE 90 for a reason, since it was available at the time and the 4 speed manual gear box calls for that.

looks like Valvoline Unitrac is what I should be using per the link below.

http://www.valvoline.com/pdf/hd_unitrac.pdf

The part number is VV813 in a 5 gallon bucket. Looks like they sell it at Oriley's auto parts.

Any idea where I can get it cheaper? ... I hate Orileys..

You answered your own question of oil - Universal tractor hyd fluid meeting below specs. As the rear uses wet brakes the fluids are the same as used in many other applications where a gear oil and hyd fluid are use for lube. Farm supply stores should have it as well as Sam's club did carry it . Case / IH hy-tran fluid meets the specs also

Meets or exceeds the following older specifications(Where appropriate viscosity grade applies): John Deere JDM J20A, J20B, J14B, & JD 303; Ford New Holland ESN-M2C134-C, ESN-M2C134B, ESN-M2C134A, ESNM2C86B, ESN-M2C53A, ESN-M2C48-B&C; Massey Ferguson M-1129-A, M-1127-B, M-1127-A, M-1110; Case B-6(HYTRAN®), MS-1206(PTF), MS-1210, MS-1205, MS-1204/JIC-185, JIC-144, JIC-143, B-5; White Farm(Oliver) Q-1802(Type 55 Fluid), Q-1766B(Universal HTF), Q-1722(White MP Tractor Oil), Q-1705(Universal HTF); Agco(Allis) 257541, 246634; Versatile Hydraulic /Gear Fluid Spec 24M, Spec 23M; Hesston Fiat AF-87; Oliver Q-1802(Type 55), Allison C-3 Fluid; Caterpillar TO-2; Allis Chalmers PF 821XL; API GL-4;
