Hello,
 
My father in law's WD has water in the oil. I dumped water in the radiator yesterday, and the level on the dipstick went up 2 inches.
 
We ran a compression check, and it's got 100 lbs, 105 lbs, 85 lbs, and 100 lbs. This was after sitting for almost 2 years. The compression readings seem okay to me, and I think would indicate it's not a head gasket. Are we looking at an internally cracked block? Could water be getting in the crankcase from somewhere else? 
 
Any help or suggestions on what else to check would be appreciated.

First check would be the 2 casting (freeze) plugs in the cylinder head.  Remove the valve cover and look at them.  It maybe one of those rare cheap and easy fixes.

If it's not the freeze plugs in the head, probably sleeve seals.

Thanks guys!! Gives us a small glimmer of hope it's not just a parts tractor. It was rebuilt several years ago, but has seen very little use.
 
I'll pull the valve cover this week and do some digging.

Well...I'm still in shock, but believe it or not, it was the freeze plug! I pulled the valve cover and there it sat. Must not have had a good enough mixture of antifreeze. I drove it back in the hole, changed the oil, and it fired right up and purred like a kitten. Unbelievable!
 
My father-in-law wanted me to post our sincere thank you for the help. Especially for you Clay, for taking the time to give some advice. We were ready to write this thing off, and now we'll be brush hogging with it this weekend!

Brian, that's great news, although it's not suppressing. Often times those plugs rust out.
