my 48 c has the oil line running to the governor the shaft keeps working out. Also the throttle lever won't stay at high throttle. Is this an adjustment problem? If so the governor or the linkage ? Thanks for any help

the throttle lever on the steering column is positioned against notches or "saw teeth" that keep it from slipping to a lower speed. Are you saying this lever is slipping ? If so, the lever needs cleaned up with a file to make a sharp edge to set firmly into the notches. Does the governor work and control speed properly if the above lever is held at HI RPM ?

also, the lever is spring loaded to keep pressure on the lever to hold it against the teeth. Edited by steve(ill) - 16 Sep 2016 at 10:10pm |

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

It doesn't idle as high as it should when I push the throttle up is when the shaft works out of the governor.

My explanation prob isn't the best. My main problem is the shaft that the oil line connects to that goes in top of the governor housing comes out when I push the throttle lever foreward. Wondering if that has something to do with the throttle lever not staying in place

well the shaft is connected to the governor inside.. the weights throw out at hi RPM and rotate the shaft.. If the oil line moves out, that is not a big problem, if the shaft with the lever comes out, you need internal governor work.

I don't know if the 1948 C is the same.
I just had a similar problem with my 1939 B. On the B the manual control lever(banana shaped lever with spring at outer end) pivots on the shaft with the oil line attached to it. The 1938 & early 1939 B didn't have the oil line. That shaft is pressed into the governor housing and the manual control lever pivots on it. The hole in the manual control lever was worn oval shaped and I drilled it out to make it round and turned a new shaft to fit the enlarged hole and the other end to fit the governor housing. When I pressed the shaft into the governor housing I put locktite on it as a safety precaution. Dick L posted a picture of a 1939 B governor for me here, Picture036-vi.jpg Hope this helps, Nella

If you clean off the oil a little locktite might hold the shaft in the governor housing.

I have had two that were loose in the past. The hole was not washed out on mine and I just coated the pin with Loctite and pounded them back in. Each one can be different and take a different repair.

The later governor housing had that pivot pin threaded in. Had a friend revamp some worn housings by tapping the hole and have the later style pin threaded in. Last I knew, the pivot pins were no longer available
