i need some information from people. My dad and I just picked up a 39' IB with the B serial number that has the normal transmission but it also has a hi/lo/reg in addition to it. not sure on a whole lot about this as for the other IB we have(1940), only has the standard tranny. Any information would help greatly.

Sounds like a neat find, don't know if it's factory or not. Could you post some pics? I assume both your IB's have hand brakes. Do either of them have the C channel frame? What are the serial #'s?

Sounds like it might have a Sherman step up/down. I've seen a C with one. Definitely not common.

The hi/lo/reg trans looks like it is suppost to be there, working on getting pictures up. the serial for the one we just picked up is B31104. Yes they both have hand breaks and the heavy frames. The latest one has the extra guards up front for the plow attatchment.

The first IB made was serial # 31101 so you could easily have the earliest IB that is left.

MNLonnie, where did you get the number from? the book we have doesn't show the IB's with the B serial number.

From Terry Deans data book. There were 260 IB's made from 1939-1945 using B serial #'s and the first was B31101.

Can you buy the book anywhere? That would be awsome to have that early of a tractor. Where we bought this one was 6 miles away from where we bought the other one about 4 years ago. We think they were used by the muskegon county road commision in Michigan.

Most Sherman transmissions change the output by 20% so Lo is 20% slower, Hi is 20% faster and Reg is straight thru at stock speed.

Here is the data book. You can expect to pay between $30 and $50 for one, anything more than $50 and your shopping in the wrong place. Very informative book, I have 5 copies so no matter what vehicle I'm in there is a copy handy.
