My rim has rusted around the valve stem so bad that it is cutting into my tube and causing a leak. I want to remove the rim this weekend, but have never done so, and wonder if the forum members have any suggestions or tricks that would help me do it? I also posted in the classifieds a need for a 18.4x38 rim so if you have one close to Indiana, let me know. My fall back position is to have someone weld it up for me. Thanks.

First step is required regardless of the type of wheel, spin out or solid. I bought a 375 gal container($75) to save the methonal fluid in. Parked the tractor on a flat bank with the tank below. Valve stem at the bottom. It was a 6 ft drop. Bought a kit from Napa for the valve stem and connected a garden hose to it and then ran it into the tank. Several hours later most of it will be in the tank. Used a portable combressor to pump the tire up to get it over to the shop. I have spin outs, so i placed a jack under the rear axle and jacked it up so the tire was just off the ground. Had 2 friends hold the tire on each side as I removed the locks. Man handled the tire after that. Would be safer with a loader and a chain.
I guess the other type wheel will be the same process now that I think about it. Reversed the process to put fluid back in the tire with the valve stem at top dead center.

A good welder can easily repair the damage if the rest of the rim is good. I had mine repaired and you can barely tell it.

Thanks for the replies. I got the rim/tire off the tractor without incident. I was worried about rusty bolts but they all came off easily. Luckily I didn't have any fluid in it to mess with. Going to have the tire taken off the rim today and will look at Gary1967's used rim to see if I am better off with it versus having it welded. Hopefully, I will get it fixed by the end of the week.
