I have a 1968 190XT, I need to know what color it should be as I'm getting ready to paint it?
I really want the stickers to look as original as possible where should I get them? What needs fixed if I see some oil coming out where the 3 point arms attach?

I am also restoring my 1968 190xtd. Serial #20346. My brother is also doing his now as well, serial #20350. We purchased both of them earlier this year from the same general area. Probably came from the same dealer. Although not officaly called series II, they are just prior to series III xt's. We are using PPG persion orange #2, Q1590-9090, QT150. $95/gallon. Will take 2 gallons if you apply at least 3 coats. Decals, Maple hunter decals of Indiana. They have excellent decals. Now, I said our tractors are between series I and series III. Decals to be chosen from are exactly that. However the good folks there allow you to pick the necessary decals from each kit to get the correct decals for your series II. Pick the series III kit. Delete the series III decals, choose the XT decals from the series I kit. Add the long fuel tank Allis Chalmers" decal from the series I kit. Should be 2 1/2x23 inches long if I remember correctly. Neither kit had the decals for the traction booster, depth control so i ordered those from Agco thru Sandy Lake Implement 1-888-252-0656, ask for Brenda in parts. She is awesome and knows her stuff. Part numbers for those 2 decals are 702433380,70243379V. The power take off decal is incorrect in the kit, nice decal but it shows that you engage/disengage the PTO with the arrows pointing side to side instead of up and down. I am being nit picky but you may be ok with it. So I also ordered that thru Brenda also thru Agco. Google Maple Hunter decals of Indiana to view both kits and you will see what I am talking about. $114 for the kit after changes was made and probably another $30 from Agco. Of course these are all suggestions, but I took pictures of my XT before tear down and found these combinations worked for me. What is your serial # for my curiosity? Hope this helps, post some pictures as I plan to do the same. Good luck, always great to hear of a fellow 190xt project.

The PTO decal is 70257708, paint was ordered from Amazon. When applying the decals, I always spray a light coat of tap water to the area the decal is being applied. This allows temporary movement of the decal in order to get it straight and to remove air bubbles. Start in the middle and work your way outward using a a thin bonds application pad or equivalent. You may already know all this, just giving added info just in case.

Thanks for the tips, I thought it was persian orange but I thought I probably needed more info as far as shade, are you planning on shooting acrylic enamel or base/clear? I shot some base/clear on some duals I painted a couple years ago and didn't like it because it seemed like it was more brittle, on sythetic enamel it seems like if I use hardner in it and spray it really well the shine is awesome and durability seems great.

As far as your leak at the lift arm, Agco shows seal 70256993. Picture shows 1 seal, but the quantity is 2. My guess is 1 seal for each side. I don't have my manual in front of me but it looks like you remove the lift arm by removing the outer snap ring, slide off the arm. Remove 2 washers and the seal is behind that, Hopefully you can hook it and pull it out. If its pressed in that's going to make it harder to remove. Hopefully someone on the forum will chime in that has done this before as I have not. Also shows O-ring in the breakdown but not in the picture. Prior to serial# 19590, order 70227933. Effective seriel # 19590 order 70923827.

Persian orange #2. Acrylic enamel, ratio 8:1:1. Paint, reducer, hardner in that order. Not sure if your sand blasting, but I do. I spray etching primer made by Mason first. Really soaks into the metal and provides rust protection and provides a good base for the next coat of regular gray primer. Etching primer is very thin and doesn't get thinned. Be careful spraying as you can over do it and have runs.

I haven't done my series 3 three point, I have all the parts to do it. There is a bushing on each side you should replace to make the seals last, was told they can be a bit of a challenge to remove the old if you have the tire on and set narrow and you don't have the right tools.

Persian orange 2 is the correct color. For the creme color on the wheels Rustoleum Almond is as close as it gets.
For the leaking at the rockshaft, there are several things to address: remove the shaft and inspect it for wear VERY carefully. I found mine was well worn where the bushing and seals ride. Fortunately I had another shaft in the barn that was in perfect condition. The other leaking suspects are the bushings in the housing - those must be replaced. AGCO carries them for $50 each (you gotta pay the price if you don't want leaks), after that are the oil seals. I am doing this on my 1967 XTD currently. |

AC720, Are you spraying PPG paint on the creme as well? If so let me know and I'll get that at the same time that I get the orange.
I'll see what I can do about getting the proper rockshaft bushings and seals, I don't like oil leaks. This is my first orange tractor, I was raised on mostly green and some red, I really enjoyed baling with it last year. I'm looking forward to making it sharp. Thanks for the help.

I use the the Agco cream paint, I don't have the paint in front of me. I can get it to you maybe tomorrow. I had some cream mixed at Napa that was suppose to be correct on my 720 when I restored it. Although it looks fairly good I think its too dark so that's why I switched to the Agco paint. They don't sell PO#2 in gallon cans or I would have purchased that from Agco also.

Welcome to AC nation, glad to have someone convert to big Orange. The XT's are good tractors, especially in their hay day. I mowed hay with mine pulling dads 390 AC haybine. Did a great job and enjoyable to use. Love the large platform, power director, and good view from the seat. Good power from the 301. Pulling the power director back to low range to make the turns with a little right brake pedal made the turns easy. Shifting from lo to hi range on the fly is one of AC's big advantages.

Newer than mine and your correct, series II. I have replaced the clutch with a 6 puck unit, injectors and pump rebuild.
