I have a question about the power director on my Allis 190XT. The high and low range work fine, but when I put the power director in neutral the tractor keeps moving. It's as if the neutral position is non responsive. The previous owner said the tractor was like that as long as he had it (10years). Any suggestions/advice?

"Creeping" in neutral is always worse when the hydraulic oil is cold versus at operating temperature (150 degrees or more). Creeping is always worse in 1st gear than 4th (road) gear. Creeping is not usually a linkage issue, but if the creeping is excessive it is probably due to warped or broken discs/plates inside the tractor. Now, you have to decide which it is.....mostly normal or really a problem.

I appreciate the input. Creeping doesn't accurately describe the issue. Regardless of the gear I am in, when I put the power director in neutral my speed does not change. The tractor just continues to chug along. If the issue is a warped or broken disc/plate, are you referring to an issue in clutch for the power director?

A mechanical problem (other than linkage to the valve or the valve itself) is internal. I can see you aren't buying into the term creeping. Set the brakes hard, and I assume the brake work ?? Place the PD lever in neutral. Shift the transmission into road gear. Let out on the foot clutch. What happens ????????????????

Thanks. I don't know the answer to that, but I will try that this week and see what happens.

mine will creep when cold its like neutral doesn't exist. in 3 or 4 i can stop it with some brake pressure in 1 or 2 its like full braking . once it warms up it will stop tractor movement in any gear without braking. it take a while to warm up if i'm just moving around the yard. pushing the snowblower it warms up real fast . soon as i back into the snow drift it works as it should.

Mine was like that, i could get it to stop with the brakes, but it took a lot of brake to do it. Had a broken disc in the low side that was in 6 pieces. New style plates are better.

My 200 started acting similar a couple years ago. I took the DR's advice and removed the shifting valve and found it was gummed up and sticking bad. After a good cleaning and light honing it worked perfect and has ever since. I would try this as it is a fairly simple procedure.

My 190XT tends to creep some. My 200 never did until one of the discs broke and locked up in one speed.
