I went to install another fuel injection pump on my 190 xt III. It has a shorter shaft drive shaft. Just checking with some of you smarter mechanics to be sure there are different length shafts. I guess I need the longer one. Anyone know what year they changed?

Also, The pump was rebuilt and used one year before I got water in oil. The tractor has sat for 3 years. The pump is hard to turn by hand. Question is how easy should the injection pump turn by hand?

And I saw on here before someone good and reasonable to work on the pumps. Around here it cost at least 600 to start on one. Who is good to contact for pump repair?

     Thanks for any information

pump is same whether it takes the long or short shaft. That has to do with the engine side of things. The long shaft uses an adapter that is bolted to the front plate, then pump bolts to the adapter, to engine serial number 2D25512 for 2800 or 190 diesel, and 2D25600 for 2900, XT engine. The short shaft setup came after the above serial number breaks, (not sure exactly when guessing around series 3 intro) and the pump bolts right to the front plate of the engine. The pump should turn fairly easily. If it's been sitting with old fuel, don't try to force it to work again without having it taken apart and cleaned up and serviced. You will save yourself in the long run! I have worked on a lot of pumps for members on this board.

Without a doubt I would recommend injpumped.  He has done a couple for me, high quality work and a great turn around time.

Speaking of engine ID plates, Dad's plate fell off of the rivets but he is "pretty sure" where the plate is. Is that engine tag  something to hold onto?? How do I re-attach it??

Absolutely keep that TAG! You will need it for parts when identifying your engine. They mainly go by serial number but often refer back to the engine tag. I am unsure how to reattach.
I highly recommend Ed for pump repair, he does an excellent job and quick turn around time. My XT runs great since he worked on it.

The more you turn the pump when it turns hard, the more it will cost to repair. It will score the head and rotor shaft.     MACK
