Need new seals in the steering motor. After 50 years, they may be a little worn out. I took mine to my local hydraulic shop 2 years ago and haven't had any problems since. Just remember to label which hydraulic line goes where.

You may be able to get by with a front seal kit for the unit.

Actually the column and shaft is held by 4 bolts to the steering valve. The shaft splines into the valve. The seal is in the top cap of the valve. The valve will have to be removed from the column. The tilt pivot is on the column.

Take the top cover off the hood so you can look in and take the right side panels off too so you can reach up in there. There are four bolts that you take out, the steering column and wheel stay on the tractor. You will have to take the dash gauge panel loose so you can get at some of the bolts from above. You can get a wrench on a couple from underneath.. Like said, don't mix up the hoses. Once the unit is out you can change the quad ring and outer seal by removing the 12 point bolts in front casting..
