Hey All,
I just became an orange officially recently with an Allis 185, open. this is my first owned tractor. I have been buying all feed so far and am now aquireing the tools and lessons to raise my own hay.
This 185 has a free pedal on the left brake, NO resistance. and the right brake is extremely hard. It had no brakes on the left when purchased before me and never repaired, i am hoping that overuse/adjustment is the cause of the right side being hard...
i have been reading through these posts...alot of good people here...I have a manual and parts book on the way, just want to know if there is anything extra I may need to know before its to late...anything else i should look at while I am in there? any caveats....
Thanks All...

If you mean the left pedal goes all the way down and don't do any thing, look under the left  side and see if linkage is unhooked or broken.
Will the right brake work or is it just hard and don't work?    MACK

Thanks for the reply...
All linkage looks to be operating up to the case on the left side brake. The right brake will work but you really need to put effort into it..also(cant be sure as I have never operated an Allis before) it seems as though the right side does not release all the way...feels like brake drag when clutch applied.

Sounds like it's time to pull the final drives and do a brake job.   MACK

That is what I expected when I bought this tractor...was just looking for any experienced "HEADS UP" on my way through this...I am a competent mechanic but this is my first tractor. been reading what I can and my shop and myself are well equiped to handle this project. just that there are always things to watch out for and a tear down of this nature I am sure there are other things that should/could be looked at while there. I have not been able to work it yet so I have no idea about jumping out of gear(previous owner says NO.
but we will see. it does give a little dificulty putting it into first.

thanks for the replies...

David.
