I have a 185 and am confused by the use of the hydraulics. There are 5 levers to handle the hydraulics to the right of the seat. I have a Bush Hog front loader attached to the right pair control valves. First question: to use the Bush Hog, I have to engage the 2nd lever (counting from the right wheel) but it recoils back to the neutral position when activating the front loader! Is this normal? Second question: only the 1st lever moves the 3pt hitch. Shouldn't I be able to raise/lower the hitch with the 5th lever? The 4th and 5th levers don't seem to do anything! The AC user manual is a little vague on the interplay of these levers. Can anyone give me an overview of these levers?

I don't quite understand what you are asking.
Lever next to finder is for 3 PT. Middle lever is for the 2 outlets on righr side at back. Lever next to operator is for the 2 outlets on the left side at back. The back 2 levers are for traction booster and posion control(to keep lift arms at a set posion. MACK

It sounds like the loader is operating at high enough pressure to trigger the lever to return back to neutral. It's how the spool is designed, once the pressure reaches a certain point, it returns the hydraulic spool to neutral. This is supposed to be set so you can raise or lower and implement and when the hydraulic lever has reached it's max/min length (bottoms out) and pressure begins to build with no flow, it puts the spool back to the neutral position so you don't hurt the hydraulic system. You may need to adjust this "pop" pressure (not sure of the technical name off the top of my head) so it works with your loader. Hurst

What you describe could be caused by having the hoses paired wrong. It sounds like your loader has its cylinder hoses connected to the remote outlets on the rear of the tractor and like MACK says, they should work with the handles near the seat. Be sure that the hoses that run to the boom up and boom down are both connected to a pair of outlets. Likewise for the bucket cylinders both bucket cylinders need to be connected to one and the same pair of outlets. The Three Point operation on these Allises are a little different than most. Traction booster lever is one of the rear levers and gives weight transfer from a 3pt hitch mounted tillage implement like a plow to the drive wheels. To use the hith for operations other than plowing leave the lever all the way back. The depth control returns an implement to the set hieght each time it is lowered. We use this with our 3pt hay rake and sometimes the rotary cutter. The thrid handle is the control handle and has four positions. 'Lift' which is all the way back, if the hitch is down and you pull the lever back past the detent, the hitch will lift all the way up and the handle will return to center which is the center position. 'Hold' which is in the center will hold the implment at any selected height. "Lower" is all the way forward and will allow the arms to go all the way down and pretty fast too if you push it all the way. The arms may not lower if there is no load on them or the oil is cold. This seems to be normal. The fourth position is Traction Booster. The control lever will return to this setting after being pushed all the way forward. In this position, either of the two rear levers control the hitch. There is a detent between the traction booster position and hold that you must move the lever through to hold and implement at certain height after lowering the hitch. The hitch will lower more slowly in the traction booster position. Hope this helps. I suppose it is a little like the hand clutch or power director in that it works different thab most and after you understand it you really like it. RW
