 Topic: 185 frame supposed to have threaded holes?

On the frame of my 185 by the engine it looks like the bolt holes have been painted such that the insides of the holes are smooth. Too smoothe to just be one layer of paint filling in the threads. I know these holes are threaded on most Allis Chalmers because we mount stone boxes on them just by taking an every day bolt and threading it in. I want to build stone boxes for my 185 and Ultimate Drag, and it's not like it would slow me down obviously, but I was just wondering if they are supposed to be threaded holes or not. I'm pretty sure they are and they're just painted over, but there is not even a sign of threads.

No the holes in the frame rails are not threaded.

I have never seen an Allis with threaded holes in a frame rail. The front bolster, between the frame rails on the W series tractors is threaded.
Threads should be a minimum of 1 1/2 times the bolt diameter deep and a frame rail isn't thick enough to have that many threads.

D14 and D15's had the threaded holes.
I am not sure if the D17's have or have not, will check today on my D17.
-not sure if the 170's have or not have and my 185 does not have

Oh, then must be we threaded the holes on our D17's. Come to think of it, the D19 stone box doesn't use the frame rail holes at all. It uses "hangers" that go around the hole top of the frame rails, almost like a hand clamped to the frame. See: 
BUT, the D17 stone box here is def threaded into the frame, so is the snowplow we made for it. Believe me there there are no nuts on the other side of those bolts. Simply threaded right in to the frame; it's nice and convenient.

D17's have threaded holes in the side frames. I clearly remember that to mount the front cultivator and the cornpicker. Mike

I knew it. Look at the front hole in the D14 where the snow plow is mounted, if it wasn't threaded there's NO WAY you could get a nut or let alone a wrench back there lol. No way you could get on that one from the back!

My D17 IV has threaded holes on the rail. Clearly remember, as one had a broken bolt in it that had to be removed and rethreaded before I could put the loader bracket on.
