 Topic: 185 brake parts??

Anyone have anything better then the OEM brake linings and bands for a 185? Anyone offer Kevlar linings and if they do, do they last longer?
Not looking for the cheapest ones, tractor has a cab on it, so too much work to replace them to cheap out on the parts.

OK, Thanks.
Do you have a part number for the rivets? Tribco don't have them, which seems funny to me as the rivets are usually furnished with the linings.

Life of the bands generally does not seem to be a problem in this application, and these bands look like new so we are only replacing one side due to a leaking brake shaft seal which was damaged the last time someone had the final drives off.
It seems like when the 190XT III or the early 200's came equipped with the new at the time metallic bands the customers complained that the brakes did not hold as well.
It looks like a JD rivet part number D1761R should work fine for riveting the Kevlar linings on the drums.
Edit to update: The JD rivets I listed above were a little short, they may of worked, but I did not get much of a crimp on them. Instead I ordered McMaster-Carr part number 97451A675 Brass hollow-end rivet, 3/16" diameter for .441-459 thickness.

The material in that brake band above is not what you think it is...AGCO sold them and probably still do, but it's cheap crap and the glue that holds them to the band either isn't enough or just junk...been there and done that! Rick

In the series 3 XT run, they used a metallic material on the bands that worked much better when they were hot, versus the old conventional rivet on material that could fade when hot. Constant turning on the fields ends with duals on the tractor was the reason for this change. But, for a chore tractor, light duty braking use, they didn't stop nearly as good. Many got changed over to the older material. This was all in response to the hydraulic brakes some of the other manufacturers had at the time. (Deere, IH, MF)

Dr. Allis...Agreed...THOSE metallic brakes worked great and I even used them on my D19's I used for logging. That was a metallic material they call feramic and is great stuff! However, the material they use now that's either bonded or riveted to the band has hardly any metallic material in it...even from AGCO...been there and done that and lasts no where near as long as the original stuff...I guess that was my point. I do have to agree though about the original stuff and the heat does help it stop great, too...Rick
