Hi all, I joined this group a few weeks ago as I recently bought a 180. This forum has an amazing amount of information and orange passion. This 180 jumps out of third but that is not its biggest problem. If the fuel system is bled it will start and run for a few minutes and then it acts like it is running out of fuel. If I pull the line off the top of the pump housing nothing comes out of the housing. Inside that fitting there looks to be really small chunks of plastic type material. Is this the pump coming apart? Thanks for any information. Ed

Flex ring in the injection pump is the culprit. A rebuild for that pump is needed. A short term fix is to knock the glass ball out of the fitting that you found the shavings in. But that is a very short term fix. The pump will have to be rebuilt.

Ryan nailed it from your description.Govenor flex ring disintegrating.Time for rebuild.May get by with only seals/rubber parts and no hard parts. Fix whatever it needs now and you likely will never touch it again.

If you don't have someone local or you aren't doing it yourself, then I highly recommend "injpumped" on this forum to do your rebuild. My 190xt essentially stopped running for any length of time like yours, and I just had it rebuilt. Ed can also supply you with some tools to help with that shaft seal that is easy to roll. I documented my entire adventure in a post if you want to know more about the entire process.

The guru's have suggested that in the past to get one going for short term.No real chance causing harm to pump.

Was told that that just dumped black plastic into the tank , only to be brought up to the filter "IF" it got past the sediment bowl. Our 180 is gas and our bowl is 2" away from pump. The actual shutoff is under the tank and a real @#$% to get to if needed, LOL. We went through this on the F2 4 years ago and our local independent said DO NOT KNOCK the ball out??

Thanks for all the info. I was afraid that the pump was going to be the culprit. Hopefully next week when we move out of sub zero weather I can get the pump off.

You can change the tank shutoff fairly easy by using a pipe coupler and brake lines. I had a pattern because I have 2 180’s an one had the later shutoff. Weld the coupling to a bracket and plumb with the brake lines. Now they are easy to shut off. Also I cant take credit for this as someone on this site told me how to do it. I think it was DR Allis or Mack

The problem with knocking the ball and spring out of the return fitting, is many times the people who do that consider it repaired.
