Working on a 180 AC , drained the transmission oil out and about 2 qt.s of water came out first ; is there a seal or o-ring on the shifter any where ? Everything else seems sealed good

There is a rubber seal on the shift lever. I replaced the one on are 180 a long time ago and can't remember exactly how I did it. Someone will get you the directions for doing this.

I'm looking at the service manual now. I don't see any o-rings; only a dust cover. The 7000 shows a gasket under the transmission cover. I don't see one for the 180. Perhaps there is a gasket under the cover and the water leaked in between a loose bolt and the gasket.

Does the tractor spend lots of time outside? The only way water gets in there is from a gear shift boot that is torn/rotton. Take the shift knob off and put a new boot on.

My two 180's don't have a rubber boot on them,but what looks like a steel shaped umbrella over the shifter where it goes into the tranny. Sitting outside for long periods of time will do this. That rain water will get in anywhere,if left outside. Rick
