The pin should be threaded so that a slide hammer can be used to remove it if it's like a 190. Removed the one on Dad's 190XT that but it was a job. Think I had to slide the whole front end out away from the engine to get at it but it's been 25 years ago. He didn't know that was a grease zerk there. I replaced the pin and welded a new pipe with bushing to the axle. That has to be welded exactly right or you won't get it back together. If you go that far it has to be clamped very very well in place and it takes even welding on both sides going at it slow letting it cool between welds and it takes several beads stitched together on each side with good deep heat penetration.

They make a tool for about $60 that goes on the zerk just like a grease gun. You spray some break cleaner or penetrating oil into the tool. THen it has a little plunger you put in similar to a syringe. You lightly tap the plunger with a hammer. and sometimes you can get the fluid to creep in where grease wouldn't. It's gets everything opened up and you can grease it when done.

I bought one of those tools at Harbor Freight. Seems it was in the $5 to $10 range. At that price figured I could afford to give it a try. Seems to work about half the time in clearing out the area.

Have what appears to be an older more heavy duty version of that tool that I found in a pawn shop years ago and package advertised it was used to free up fittings you could not pump through.
Take it easy on fittings where there may not be much of a volume area for grease behind the fitting as it can pressure up and force a press- fit, OR threaded fitting completely out. |
