Yesterday the power director started getting harder to put into high and snaps hard now as it comes out. It has been trying to creep in neutral for a while now and I just changed the oil a month ago. Any ideas or does this sound normal cause the old oil had been there a while and had a little sludge in it

Just tried taking off with the power director in neutral and pushed it into second and it started grinding so guessing it's going to have to be replaced. I can put it in gear and take off with the foot clutch fine so may keep running it to try and get spraying done

Why do you think you have something wrong??? The Power Director clutch should NEVER be used to shift the transmission from neutral into any gear. All Power Director clutches tend to "creep" somewhat in neutral, and the colder the hydraulic oil, the more it will want to creep when placed in the neutral position. You need to worry about the hand lever staying in high or low without having to hold it there and whether or not it slips under load. How long have you owned this tractor??

Its been on the farm since the mid 70s. Maybe I didnt explain it well it does hold itself in high or low but when the transmission is in the 1st or 2nd gear position and the power director is in neutral when I push the lever forward to take off from a stop, which would be second gear, the the power director lever starts to make a grinding noise.

Now, we're getting somewhere. If this noise only occurs when in 1st or 2nd speeds (which is LOW gear in the transmission), the problem is in the transmission, not the Power Director clutch. I'd suspect maybe a bad rear countershaft bearing.

Ok just tried it out and it seems to be making the noise in any of the gears going into high range but seems fine and normal goin into low.

You may have broken drive discs in high range. This "noise" started after changing the hydraulic oil?? or it was doing it before you changed the oil??

Didn't notice it until maybe 10-15 hrs after changing it. It seems quiet all the way in gear just makes the noise as your putting it in high range. My uncle sprayed all day with it just using the foot clutch and everything seemed fine as long as you don't use the power director for starting movement.
