Are you saying you saved $250 a day in fuel cost? Seems a bit high but no doubt that diesels are efficient. That’s why the world is running on diesel. Eldon if you happen to read this maybe clarify for us.

Quite simple. In the mid 70s, demand for 60 HP gas powered tractors (of any color) had disappeared. Fuel economy of the diesels had them beat. The only gas tractors were lawn and garden tractors.

That my friend, is why diesels became popular......they ran cheaper per hour on fuel use. Nothing wrong with 4 hrs to a tank on a gasser....that was all anyone expected when plowing or discing...4 hrs.

i owned a 175 gas for a month i filled the tank to the top and disced for 4 hours and it was empty was nice sounding tractor but didnt seem to have the power it should i filled it up again and in 4 hours it was empty must be why they went to diesels haha. i put it for sale on thursday and saturday morning it was gone and i went straight to the dealer and bought my 185 that i still have today.

I would love to have a 175 Gas. They are great loader tractors. Handy for many things, not hard on gas if they ain't worked hard. I had rather listen to them than the Perkins, but that 301 in a 185 is a different story.

no I didn't bid. wanted a diesel with 3 point.it was a really nice tractor.2642 hours. original owner. also $1700 for a wd 45 gas. original owner wide front. really nice shape. I bought a short hopper allis pto blower for $70.not rusted out all original, great decals and paint.

I have a 175 gas. I really like that tractor. It has an issue at the moment. Lol. I was hooking it to a hay Tedder and the engine ran away, I couldn't kill it till I finally cut the hose from breather to carb, and smothered it out with my shirt. I was expecting to get nailed with a rod at any time. It did drop a valve and got one piston and sleeve. I have had the head redone, just haven't had a chance to fix it yet. The tractor only has 2400 hours on it. I was going to fix the one cylinder, but I have decided to just completely rebuild it. As I said, it's a really nice tractor.

1,009 gas models were built and 5,485 diesels were built.I have a 1979 diesel with 2,059 original hrs on it an absolutely love that tractor.It seems to make fuel the more you use it.

The above is for the total of 175's that were made...just want to clarify that. The 175 gas tractors were only made from 1974 to 1976. Rick

According to Norm Swinford's book, there were a total of 1,009 175 gas tractors made and that was for only three years out of the 11 years they were made from 1970 to 1980. Starting serial number was 1001 in 1970 and the ending serial number was 7502 and that was an approximate ending serial number. Rick

I couldn't find the number of gas or diesel. Just the combined number above. It could be that the separate numbers are in there that book is loaded with information.

As Dan said the 175 was the last gas tractor AC made and I would love to have one. I think Norms book gives production numbers on how many were made. Did you get it?

Did any one on here get any of the tractors today? $5000 for the 175 gas and $8000 for the 200 with factory cab 18.4 x 34 radials no hydraulic pto 540 only. Old farmer retirement sale everything was neat and well kept. $80 and $85 for allis weights a piece

Personally I would rather have a gas. That's just because I know more about the gas motors and they're cheaper to work on. They're not rare, but they're weren't many built either, and those that were don't seem to change hands much. A nice 175 gas here sold a couple years ago for $12,000

Norms book saids they started making 175 gas at serial number 2153 in December 1973. Makes it a good model to me as I was born the same time... The only other number I could find was that total 175 production was 5442 but that is both gas and diesel. The neat fact is that the 175 gas was the last gas tractor allis chalmers made. So as the end of the gas tractors that is kind of cool in itself.
