Dad has a 175 that has 2800 hrs on it and he bought it for $1,000 from the original owner. He got the manual and the delivery ticket with it. We split it this weekend and replaced the seals around the shafts because it was transferring oil between the rear ended and hydraulics. We started it and ran for awhile and the hydraulics had pressure built up when we pulled the dip stick. Should there be a vent in the dipstick or somewhere?

Yes, the vent could be plugged - it's in the top of the dipstick.

Regardless, the vent is in the dipstick head. If it has a cotter pin thru the tube, remove it and drop out the ball bearing and throw them both away, Use compressed air to blow up thru the tube and see if you can dislodge the blockage.
