    Posted: 01 Dec 2011 at 5:26pm
Hey guys, just ran across a 170 gas with a factory shuttle shift transmission that I have the oppurtunity to buy. Has a factor allis loader on it as well. Sheetmetal isnt horrible and rear tires are probably 50%. Needs a new front main but seems to run well. Any idea what this thing is worth? I've never seen one with a forward/reverse shuttle shift like this before. Shifter is a tall lever on the left side. Thanks!

What you found is an Industrial D-17 most likely. Does it have a solid front axle also?

They actually did make a few 170 shuttle-shift tractors....the ones I've seen always had a 540/1000 PTO on them.

We have a 170 and a 175 Shuttle shift. Like Dr Allis said they have the 540/1000 pto on them. The 170 is also factory delete 3 point. very fun to drive and make good loader tractors

I should lay off the cold medicine. I totally ignored the 170 in the post above. Was the shuttle an option for 170 tractors?

Dairyfarmer (Bernie) has at least two?...don't remember...here's a few pics I have:

I believe this one above might be the one Bernie later restored/repainted?  Here's a pic of it apart later showing the 540/1000 PTO Dr. Allis mentions:

Here's another with a loader:

Well hopefully he did it sure  looks like a good start.  You hear of more 170 shuttles than 175.  They are always gas units too, i don't think they built a diesel one

I think Bernie (dairyfarmer) used one of these tractors to help me load a small gleaner 10' grain platform onto my trailer when I purchased his neighbor's gleaner E combine?  It was a handy setup with that AC loader..  I would like to see pics of it when its finished.

I had a customer years ago with a D17 IV with the shuttle, the lever was on the same side as the a power director tractor. I remember it well cause it kept blowing the pd filter, I had to go in thru the PD cover and clean the PD pump releif valve.   Thats the only one Ive seen.

It is a 170 gas. Havent looked at the pto yet to see if its 540/1000. Has a 3 point on it I know also. Any ideas on the worth of it though guys? I'd like to have it as it looks like a handy little loader tractor to have around the farm here.

They are kind of a rare bird, I've only ever seen one of them myself. I would say that price wise, It would definitely fetch a premium over a regular 170, but I'm not sure exactly how much, maybe $1000 to $1500 over. Darrel

We have one with a diesel, but we installed a 248 Perkins alot more user friendly. The reverse is faster than forward very handy.

Nice pics. If you can buy a shuttle shift I would strongly recommend buying it.Not many of them around, I always thought a shuttle shift would make a great tractor for running a bush hog or pushing snow.Believe you only get 4 forward speeds but you get 4 reverse speeds also.

Have not seen Dairyfarmer post lately. How long has it been since anyone has heard from him?
