170 hydraulic problem, strange.

So I have reaquired a 170.  I got it and the hydraulics did not work but the oil looked horrible.  I assumed the screen was plugged and it looked as if it was.  Fast-forward, the screen is clean, new oil, I start it up.  the pump wont pick up the oil.   
I remove the sump tube from the pump and blow into it.  I cannot blow very much air into it, asif the oil is being pushed back through the screen, that's ok but I hear a small air leak.  So I try and suck air and it happily burbles away.  

Am I left assuming that the suction line (looks bad) is bad? can it really only leak one way with out dripping oil?  Just seems weird.
AND are the suction lines available or do I need to make something?  thanks.

	Most suction leaks will not leak oil. It is easier for the pump to suck air than oil so that is what it does. Make sure there is oil up to suction line. When it is drained it takes a while for oil to get to suction line. MACK

	Need to remove /loosen an output line from the pump to help bleed air and suck up oil

	thanks, I did try to crack a pressure line and all I got was air. So, I sheepishly disconected the sump line at the bottom and it was almost completely empty. I've cleaned the screen above said suction line. But I think I have had a relavation. I had been under the impression that the 170 had only one transmission oil resevoir. Is the hex-headed breather in front of the shifter actually another dipstick? I'll check tomorrow, but if that is the case, I'll feel pretty silly. thanks. 	The hex head breather is where you fill the hydraulics. The trans ia seperate from the hyd. MACK
