I bought this 170 with a stuck engine. I have since freed the engine and completely refurbished the fuel tank and carb. There is free flowing fuel to the carb and the bowl fills. I have spark on all plugs. However, I cannot get the thing to fire not even on starting fluid. What's the problem? The engine only has 2,100 hrs on it. What am I missing?

Have you had the valve cover off and looked at the valves? What is the compression on each cylinder? Sounds like it won't draw fuel mixture into cylinder. What did you do to free up the engine? Tracy

I haven't had the valve cover off. That's a good idea. I'll do that next. I haven't checked compression. Probably a good idea to do that as well. As for freeing up the engine, I soaked the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil. |

If that is all you done, you will find the compression test really low I bet. If an engine is stuck that it takes more than a little effort to free. I would at least pull the valve cover and look, most of the time get the head off as well. Tracy

...check your firing order making sure to know distributor rotation.Stuck engine often means stuck rings too.

It runs!!! Finally. The problem was bad spark plugs. Now all I have to do is free the clutch up.
