Anyone running a small 1400?  I saw a 21 footer for sale and was curious how much horsepower they take to pull.  I was also wondering if they could work cornstalks down good enough to replace a disk.

Thanks!
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

Model 1400's were available with 7 1/2" spacing or 9" spacing. Be sure to know what you are buying.

I think the stalks would have to be good and dry to run a 1400. I can run stalks with my DMI field cultivator but the have to be dry and brittle in the spring. I am sure it won't work in the fall.

I have a 24.5' 1400 with 7.5" spacing and 6" sweeps. I plow my corn stocks in the fall and cultivate in the spring with no problems. Pull it with a warmed up 220 with 20.8 radial duals and dry ballasted to 17,300 lbs  or JD 7820 mfd

We have a 28' with 7.5" spacing that works good behind the 7580. It does a decent job on bean stubble. I don't think it would like unplowed cornstalks, but we have never tried that.
