How is the re power project going ? were there many up grades to the 685 engine from the 11000 series? I am looking forward to seeing some pics Regards steve

685 engine is inter-cooled, has different oil filters and oil cooler, upgraded injection pump and injectors. So far I have:
-swapped damper, fan drive and water pump pulley
-installed oil cooler for torque converter
-swapped rear housing and flywheel
-removed electric sensors and plugged holes
I thought this was a good idea because combines in this area are relatively low houred. This one showed 3500 or so on the meter. Exhaust manifold is badly cracked though, does not look salvageable, was a common problem on N7 I've heard.
I was going to rebuild the 11000 engine, but a friend of mine knew about this combine, and wanted some parts from it, so I bought the combine, drove it to his place, we pulled the engine, and he bought the rest.

the 685 won't have the two oil pumps and twin sump for working in steep country ?

Right- just has single sump, only good for 25 degrees or so. Dual pumps are supposed to be good for 45 degrees. I might swap out oil pan and pump, not sure yet- likely this tractor will live out its days in the flat lands.

The extra pump would be handy when digging dams . Thats a cool project I bet she will have plenty of power , thanks for posting !!

Decided I had better go ahead with oil pump swap- turns out the crankshaft gear is different on the 685, so had to exchange oil pump drive gears as well. Also had to bend torque converter oil lines to clear spin on filters on engine, and will have to do some rearranging to get the fit between turbo and air filter. These little things take time.

Tried 'er out today- feels and sounds exactly like any other 11-B. If you couldn't see the mods, and ran another side by side with it, you wouldn't know which tractor had the 685 and which had the original 11000. Took longer than I thought, but all in all a success, I think. Plus it just looks cool.

My brother had a71 or 72 11B.It came with the P pump.Nice tractor.Would out work the D6C's. Blade and push arms weren't as good as Cat's in my opinion but HEY!!

Yeah, you don't see too many 11s that haven't had the push arms broken at one time or another. The thing is, they went from 100 to 150 horsepower, added nearly 10000 pounds, and never changed the push arms- something had to give.

Interesting that the FA 10 was what Fiat thought an HD 11 should have looked like
Our 10 is 100hp and all there, 10B was wound up 100rpm and 110 and I have seen that 10C was 130 with a different engine. Don't know if they went more.
But I'd be surprised if the push arms on our 10 straight blade would have been worried up to around 200.
A dozer fixing neighbour made some interesting comments on the size of the track frame diagonal brace too.

11-B was replaced by Fiat 14-C in 1977. Not sure how they would compare working side by side.
