Past auction finds

This is about farm equipment, but not any questions. This is just observations, and I thought it might be more appropriate in this section. Not too long ago I came across a D14 at auction, and felt almost obligated to bid on it to at least run the price up beyond where a scrap dealer or salvage yard would buy it. I ended up with a very nice little D14 for not a lot of money.

At the same auction I bought a packer for a decent price. It is a little ugly, but the rings are in good shape and my brother has a welding shop so we can build a new frame when the time comes.

If you look at the link you will see it was sitting on a packer dolly. We really don't need the packer dolly, and didn't see a good way to haul it home. I asked if I could just leave it and put it on an upcoming auction. Of course I could, auction houses make money by selling things. I thought about putting better tires on it to get a better price, but decided to leave it as I bought it and take what I could get making my cheap packer even cheaper.

A long story that leads to this: I was looking through another auction today and found a loader.

Not the best looking loader, and you can see it has been modified to fit a tractor that may have been a bit too small. But I thought I recognized that loader. It was on a tractor I had stumbled across a while back. I had wanted the tractor but was a little concerned about the condition the internals may have been in. About that time a forum member had reached out to me, and I realized he may be interested in that tractor. I told him location and what contact information I had. I think it has been over a year, but then I saw that loader on auction. I contacted him to ask. Yes he bought the tractor, yes that is the loader that was on it. I will say it is a D17 seriesIV diesel, and I am happy it was rescued from a scrapyard. I won't say who bought it, he is a forum member and if he wants to share that is up to him.

If we rebuild it transport wheels will probably be a part of that. Until then it does what we need it to do, and if we have to go any distance the telehandler or harobed can carry it. I worked for a farm that used a dolly, didn't really like it. you have to back a disc and packer uphill square. And when you are loaded you still have to be careful on the road, if it starts to bounce you will probably need another chain after you reload it. Not a lot of Schmeisers around here anymore, most of the big operations either use the coils or the Unverferth rolling harrow that can be folded up for transport. Schmeisers still usually bring about $100 a foot on auction, so the rough frame on that one helped me. So far this year I have had some decent buys, although probably more of them than I should have got.
