6 v original system and generator. Struggles starting, New Battery in 2025, reads 6.15v at half throttle when running. I believe it should be over 7 with charging from generator when running. Tested the generator at a shop and they said it is good, check the grounds. This is a new to me nicely restored tractor so not sure on all the wiring. Im no electric expert but understand the basics of it. Attached are a couple pics, not sure about the spare wire there in the console. What should I look at next?

Pull the light switch fully out to make it full charge ?? or adjust the third brush position inside the generator dust cover.

The operators manual tells how to adjust the 3rd brush and operate the charging system.

also , the light switch controls the MAX CHARGE... if it has some kind of problem, you could have a lower charge ... conntect a jumper wire with aligator clips, from the generator "F" terminal to the battery GROUND ( bypasses the switch) and see what happens...

That light switch is completely different than the switches on my CA, Model C, and WD. I'm not saying for certain that it is the wrong switch, but it does need verification that it can actually provide the connection to ground to enable the field on the generator.
Has this tractor ever charged correctly since you have owned it, or is this a recent development?
Edit: Does that black wire that is dangling loose lead to the generator? You could test it with an ohmmeter to find out

Looks like it doesn't have the correct light switch to be able to do a low charge and "High Charge". So, that black wire probably has to be grounded to make the gen charge at all and then it would be high charge only.

Yup. That's the reason I asked above about the dangling wire. There is supposed to be a wire connecting from the Field terminal at the generator and running to the 3-position light switch. When the light switch is pushed all the way in it grounds the field through a great big ol' 3 Ohm resistor, which I do not see, this provides a ground connection for Low Charge.
When the light switch is pulled out, it connects the Field directly to ground, allowing High Charge with lights on and High Charge with lights off, depending on which position is selected.

Steve at B&B usually has the OEM switches in stock. He's usually on here, and just had another B'Day!!

I bought one from him. It was in near new condition. I was amazed :)
