D19 gas, serial#15090, lift arms raise plow, as soon as valve is returned to hold posttion, lift arms drop. I removed 4 bolts from top and 2 from bottom of valve stack and removed and checked ball and seat/spring. O ring around assymbly looked ok. Did not detect visually any obstruction/foreign material under ball/seat. Cleaned with carb cleaner. re-installed valve stack, same result. Where do I look from here?

That check ball and spring (between the upper half and lower half of the valve) is only part of it. The poppet on the opposite side of the ball/spring has a seat made into it and it seals against the seat made into the upper casting. I don't know if you could use some lapping compound and get the two parts to like each other or not. Be sure to replace that Oring regardless. I wish Mack could answer your question. D-19's are somewhat known for this. A stiffer spring wouldn't hurt.
