Hi Guys,
I have an Allis Chalmers 7020 with a 5 speed gearbox , a Hi-Lo range selector and the two power director buttons sticking up from the floor. Everything works OK except the clutch doesnt disengage completely when the pedal is pushed to the floor. That is if the trans is in neutral and I push the clutch pedal down all the way it grinds when I try to push it into gear. It will go into gear with a firm shove. When I stop the machine and push the clutch in and try to get it back into nuetral the gear lever is very stiff and I have to let the pedal up then hold pressure on the gear stick as I push the predal down to get it out of gear. I believe it has a multi disc wet clutch and I presume that hydraulic pressure releases the clutch pack. Can I have some advice on how to test and rectify this issue.
Thankyou

Stand alongside the tractor with the engine OFF and the cab door open. Grab the clutch pedal and pull down on it just a little and determine how much slack (freeplay) there is before you really can't pull it by hand. There should be ZERO freeplay !! Adjust the clutch pedal cable by loosening 2 nuts on the U-bolt and pull the cable forward as hard as you can and tighten the nuts. There could be some broken bushings in this area which will cause a lot of freeplay, so consider that as a possible cause. ZERO freeplay.

My son had to slot the holes in the bracket a bit more to get enough travel on a high hour tractor.

Like the Dr says, plus foot clutch cable will stretch in time & then become out of adjustment again later or simply break?? 7020s were mfg from 1977-81, so 45+ years old OEM cable?
Here’s a weblink to Bunker Hill cables. They mfg a replacement for AGCO 70269446. Not a difficult repair.
