I've got a D17 Series IV that's got 3-point arms that don't want to move.
All of the levers are moving (I sprayed some lubricant to really free them), and some will make some noises...but the 3-point arms don't want to move. I believe I'm supposed to put both of the rear levers (traction control) to the forward position, then the farthest right lever in the front (set of 3) is the one that should control the 3-point arms (up and down). I move that lever forward and back while stepping/jumping on the 3-point arms and they aren't moving. Any ideas? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

What does the operators manual say? You may have the levers moving but not the valve spool itself.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

On the front right lever witch is the main three point hitch control you should be able to feel the detents as you move it

I assume the arms go up when the tractor is running and lower when the engine is off.
If all your linkages are moving and not worn excessively, refer to your picture between the hydraulic cylinder and the Position / Traction levers. On the cap with Allen head bolts holding the cap, behind the hydraulic arms lever (nearest the fender), remove the two Allen screws and remove the cap. Spray a little light oil on the plunger, then use a punch and tap the plunger forward. You may have to do it a few times until it moves easily. Edited by WF owner - 4 hours 44 minutes ago at 5:56am |

Both rear levers should be pushed forward to the front of the tractor. If that doesn't help, your linkage under the console is seized up. There are 2 or 3 pivot points under there that should move freely by hand. If any of them are stuck, you will have the problem you currently have. You have to get under there and lubricate them good so they move freely. It's a common problem after 60 years without lubrication. The traction booster could also be stuck, but from my experience, 90% of the time the linkage is the problem.

DID you just buy this tractor ?? and the arms were already up ?? I would approach this a little differently. I think your cylinders are STUCK in the extended position from being left there for years. Disconnect the hyd hoses on each cylinder. Use a 8 or 10 foot pipe to try and pry the arms down. I'll bet you'll wind using a chain wrapped around the top and a tractor to jerk them downward. If you get them down, reconnect hoses and if they raise back up on their own, you do have a linkage problem. My point is those arms don't always drop down from their own weight.....They just don't especially if they are stuck.
