Merchant Street - Columbia - Adair County - Kentucky Thursday_10-August-2023 Flower Garden Florist Merchant Street in the foreground. The huge Columbia City Cemetery is in the background. I have no idea what this building was back in Jack and Oliver's day, but I intend to find out; I suspect it was probably a doctor's home/office. Check out Satellite View at these coordinates: 37.104835°N 85.305904°W 229.8192 m 754' Check out Street View as well. |

I'm inclined to say it was possibly the local creamery. The loading docks on the 'porch', block walls, windows high in the walls of the first floor so things could be stacked against the walls. Second floor was probably warehouse for feed and seed.

Paris - Bourbon County - Kentucky Saturday_26-July-2025 Original Cape Cod Style Long John Silver's Right beside the Last Surviving Jerry's Restaurant in Paris, Kentucky Now missing it's square roof-top cupola and it's trademark thick wooden planked "wharf" style steps and entrance, with big Creosote wooden pilings and thick Hemp rope hand-railings; this is one of the "Good" Long John Silver's from when they were a fit place to eat at, before the health nuts ruined them; I have not had a decent meal from a Long John Silver's in 35-years. An original blue and yellow Long John Silver's sign is on the North side of the building, partially concealed by some red plastic sheeting; you can see the "ng J" letters. Now, it is a Giovannis Pizza 38.188323°N 84.284152°W Elevation 850'

Jerry's Restaurant Paris - Bourbon County - Kentucky Saturday_26-July-2025 The Last Surviving Jerry's Restaurant Opened in 1961, one of 67, she has been the sole survivor since 2020 when two of the remaining three, all in Kentucky, closed their doors. Today, the menu is almost identical; and, the food is every bit as great as it was in the 1960s. US27/US68 6-Mile-Marker 38.188436°N 84.283962°W Elevation 850' CLICK HERE and HERE |

The Last Surviving Druthers Restaurant Campbellsville - Taylor County - Kentucky Saturday_16-August-2025 Menu Board inside the Last Druthers Restaurant "Originally a Burger Queen, this family owned and operated restaurant has been a community staple in Campbellsville, Kentucky since opening day in 1970. Once a restaurant chain of more than 200 locations, many thought the Druther's name was extinct! Whether you're a first timer or a regular, you are sure to feel right at home the minute you step through our doors. "I'd Ruther go to Druther's Restaurant!"" In my opinion, changing the corporate name from Burger Queen to Druthers rang the death bell for the once powerful chain. I had heard from many that this was a great place to eat and was not at all disappointed when we were there; the food and service was excellent; the best French-fries by far that I have ever had. And..., they have fountain Big Red, cold enough to bust your teeth and not watered down like the drinks at other places; they also have Ski that is as good as Ski was forty years ago. Counter Girl in the Last Surviving Druthers Restaurant Let's follow Queenie Bee, it's Burger Queen for Me 37.340608°N 85.345653°W Elevation 804'

Monday_01-April-2019 As seen on Road Trip to Winchester_2019 Boonesboro Quarry at Kentucky River Bridge Southbound on the new KY Hwy 627 bridge over the Kentucky River heading South out of Clark County into Madison County. Kentucky River Milepost 175.15 The old bridge was a very high, very long, very narrow iron through-truss affair with steep, crooked, narrow highway on both sides and tight 90-degree curves at each end. Boonesboro Quarry, owned by The Allen Company, lies on both sides of the highway on the South bank. My understanding is that the Limestone is actually mined from an underground drift mine with entrance at the extreme North-West end of the visible quarry. A huge enclosed conveyor brings the rock outside to the final crushers and grader screens. I am assuming that some sort of continuous mining machine grinds the rock from the face and thus no huge shot-rock needs be further downsized before entering the conveyor. Just upstream, South (left in the photo), is Lock and Dam Number 10; and, just upstream and on the opposite bank is Dale Power Station and CSX RxR North/South mainline(formerly the L&N). On the East/other side of KY627, the quarry shares a boundary with Fort Boonesborough State Park. It is confusing that the Fort is on the South/Madison side of the river while what Kentucky calls Boonesborough is 4/10-mile away on the North/Clark side of the river. Although we still have quite a distance to go before we leave the bridge, we have already crossed the Kentucky River; if we could see the river in these views, we would be looking downstream toward Carrollton. KY Hwy 627 - Boonesborough - Madison County - Kentucky 37° 54' 19.61" North Parallel - 84° 16' 17.17" West Meridian 594' Above Sea Level Photo taken through the glass of a moving vehicle.

Monday_01-April-2019 As seen on Road Trip to Winchester_2019 Clark County Courthouse - Back Side As seen from the outside corner of Wall Street and Cleveland Avenue. The 4th courthouse on this site, it was built in 1853, completed in 1855, at a cost of over $40,000; you couldn't get the clock cleaned today for $40,000. The brick building at right is The Fraternity Building; a Masonic Lodge that hosts several other local fraternities as well. Clark County Courthouse - Clock Tower Unlike many of the old courthouse clocks that only show the correct time twice a day, this clock, built and installed in 1889, is dead-on-the-money. Clark County Courthouse - Historical Marker Well worth a Look: https://visitwinchesterky.com/wp-content/uploads/WinchesterWalking2015.pdf KY Hwy 627 - Winchester - Clark County - Kentucky 37°59'34.36" North Parallel - 84°10'39.31" West Meridian 968' Above Sea Level

Monday_01-April-2019 As seen on Road Trip to Winchester_2019 South Main Street - Winchester As seen on the East side of South Main, viewing from the North corner of Cleveland Avenue, looking South toward Boonesborough. Main Street in Winchester is also US Hwy 60 and KY Hwy 627. The building corner in the right margin of the photo is Clark County Courthouse. I like how the sidewalks on the East side are elevated quite a bit above the roadway; it would be hard to get run over up there. Bloomfield's and Clark County National Bank are visible in this photo. Monday_01-April-2019 As seen on Road Trip to Winchester_2019 Bloomfield's Department Store and Clark County National Bank As seen on the East side of South Main, viewing from the North corner of Cleveland Avenue. Bloomfield's, 41 South Main, is the nearer building with the two rounded bay windows. Bloomfield's, founded by Vic Bloomfield, was a Winchester institution into the late 1980s. Clark County National Bank, 47 South Main, is the whitish building with five arched windows per floor, a false gable over the top-center window, and a columned gable over the main front door. Built in 1880, it is the only remaining iron-front building in Winchester. Clark County National Bank is directly across South Main from Citizens National Bank; one has to wonder if that was by design. Well worth a Look: https://visitwinchesterky.com/wp-content/uploads/WinchesterWalking2015.pdf KY Hwy 627 - Winchester - Clark County - Kentucky The coordinates below pin the center of the as yet unidentified pinkish building between the two. 37°59'33.03" North Parallel - 84°10'38.18" West Meridian 974' Above Sea Level Window Shopping at Bloomfield's |

Monday_01-April-2019 As seen on Road Trip to Winchester_2019 South Main Street - East Side - 47 to 101 As seen from the North corner of Cleveland Avenue, looking South toward Boonesborough. Main Street in Winchester is also US Hwy 60 and KY Hwy 627. Visible in this photo, as outlined in the accompanying photos, are Clark County National Bank, Arctic, Turnbull and Company Dry Goods Store, and the Winchester Opera House. KY Hwy 627 - Winchester - Clark County - Kentucky ***** ***** ***** Clark County National Bank_1880 Completed in 1880, this is the only remaining iron-front building in Winchester. 47 South Main Street - East Side 37°59'32.74" North Parallel - 84°10'38.39" West Meridian 975' Above Sea Level ***** ***** ***** Arctic - Turnbull and Company Dry Goods Store 1880 Built in 1880 for Doctor Washington Miller, president of the Citizen’s National Bank. 63 South Main Street - East Side 37°59'31.23" North Parallel - 84°10'39.21" West Meridian 974' Above Sea Level NOTE: in October-2024 Satellite View, the next building South, the one on the corner of Lexington Avenue, has been demolished. April-2023 Street View shows the glass still intact and the electricity still connected; however, it is cordoned off with orange barrels and yellow tape. There is a condemnation notice on a side door and I can make out "Entry is Prohibited and Unlawful" ***** ***** ***** Winchester Opera House 1873 South/East corner of Main and Lexington Avenue Also known as Simpson's Music Hall; owned by James D. Simpson, the first Mayor of Winchester; this building housed the Post Office in 1901; it also once housed a Dinty Moore Restaurant. Until recently, that peaked roof over the top of the "block-house" did not exist; it was an open-air balcony. 101 South Main Street - East Side 37°59'29.93" North Parallel - 84°10'39.73" West Meridian 975' Above Sea Level

Monday_01-April-2019 As seen on Road Trip to Winchester_2019 1886 Citizens National Bank As seen from the North corner of Cleveland Avenue, looking South toward Boonesborough. The building on the right of the photo is Clark County Courthouse. The next building beyond the Courthouse is Citizens National Bank. Sadly, the impressive top floors and turrets of the structure were removed in the early 1990s; I have included a couple photos I found that show the Bank the way it was intended to look. Located on the corner of Main and Court Streets, immediately South of the courthouse; this is the side facing the courthouse. Built in 1886 in the Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style. The medallion faces, seen on the arch over the entrance, represent Lizzie Winn, the daughter of Col. R.N. Winn, and Mary Miller, the daughter of Dr. Washington Miller, president of the bank. On the rusted galvanized wrap-around, on the front corner, just underneath the crenels and merlons, are the words "CITIZENS NATIONAL BANK." This vintage photo is dated 1900; fourteen years after construction; photographer unknown. I sure wish I could find out what that tall tower in the left background is. This vintage photo is dated 1978; 92-years after construction; photographer unknown. Compare the bottom floor of this photo with the 1900 photo; they have torn out the original walls and replaced them with store-fronts. It is a shame they have raped and altered this grand building so much. As seen from across Main Street; Main Street in Winchester is also US Hwy 60 and KY Hwy 627. This photo is dated 2005; photographer unknown. The building on the right of the photo is Clark County Courthouse. Monday_01-April-2019 As seen on Road Trip to Winchester_2019 Smokestack - Danville Municipal Steam Plant This is the smokestack for the Danville Municipal Steam Plant that provides steam to residents and businesses in much the same manner as a municipal water supply. We are looking North on North US Hwy 127 / South 3rd Street; just North of the Jacob Street intersection and South of Main Street. The steam plant is on the East side of US Hwy 127 at the 5.09-Mile Marker. The large brick building on the right, obscurred by the trees, is Jacob's Hall of the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Wednesday_10-June-2020 As seen on KY Hwy 1590 in Clinton County, Kentucky. Not sure just what this establishment is. Photo Taken through the glass of a Westbound Moving Vehicle These big bins are on the South side of KY Hwy 1590. This is some part of the huge Cagle's/Keystone/Tyson's chicken processing plant. I do not know if it would be chicken feed in those bins or something horrific, like dried chicken guts. There are many Russell Countians who can lay claim to having worked one or two days at the chicken plant; it must not be quite so bad as the beef plant as most barely lasted half-a-day there, many not lasting until the 10-o'clock break.

Wednesday_10-June-2020 As Seen Six Years Ago on US Hwy 127 at Freedom Field office for Hi-View Construction On the West side of (Old)US Hwy 127 Milepost #8(30)[160] between Feese's Texaco and Holt's Grocery. Once they open the new stretch of US127, this Milepost #8 will be Milepoint 5-3/4, making us 2-1/4-miles closer to the Clinton County Line; I wonder if they will change all of our US127 Mileposts and make us have to learn all over again where we are. Note the old U.S.Mail Extra trailer #319011 The Barn visible way in the background is accessed via Jump Off Road and is still there in April-2026 Satellite View; a very near miss by the new road construction.
