My battery is flat again. Brand new in April of this year. Rebuilt alternator and new voltage regulator. Voltage regulator does not have screws. No lights on it. I am at wits end trying to find it. What normally goes wrong? No problem before I rebuilt alternator and replaced regulator. Regulator post had fatigued and broke off. What you guys think? Thanks Tracy

unless you have a wire that is corroded and laying on the frame rail... the only places to have a SLOW LEAK would be the starter switch,  starter, alternator and regulator.... You can pull the plug on the alternator  or regulator and let the tractor set for a couple weeks and see what happens.... just cause its NEW, dont mean it is GOOD..

one good way to test is to remove the battery cable and put a small amp meter ( maybe 50 miliamps)  from the cable to the battery terminal... then unplug one thing at a time and see when the meter drops to zero..
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

most hand held volt meters have a small "amp" scale ... and will measure for milliamps

Another option is to put a battery disconnect in the circuit. I really like them on my tractors that I take to shows, so kids can't engage the starter.

That's the way I test them; do set the meter on the highest scale at first.

My Grandson is working on a Ford 7600 that is owned by his boss, it was draining the battery after sitting for 2-3 days. The boss wasn't turning the key all the way to the OFF position and we measured ~ 500 mA of current draw (zero draw when properly shut off). Then we measured the charging amps while running and found that the puny stock alternator won't keep up with the air conditioning, much less with any lights on. This tractor has no ammeter in the dash, just an idiot light which doesn't work.

I have seen a faulty ignition switch cause parasitic drain, also an extremely dirty battery top caused by over-charging.

Do you have an ammeter on the tractor ?
If so, the 'stepped fiber washers' can be become a parasitic drain.
I replaced them with 'new' plastic ones.

I finally did that to all of my tractors and my grain trucks. I should have done it years ago.  It has saved me time and money, batteries are lasting way longer and it gives me a piece of mind on electrical fires.  An added bonus is the ease in disconnect when working on electrical or welding on equipment hooked up.

The tractor is at the farm. I live 20 minutes from it. I would like to find the drain, but I don't have the time at present. I bought a Cole Hersee disconnect. Going to make a bracket for it this week. Thanks, Tracy

Cole Hersee is the brand, I got it at Oreily's. They ain't cheap. But these are the best. You can get them on Amazon and eBay, just make sure it has the Coile Hersee trademark stamped in it. Thanks, Tracy
