The generator on the right came off the Series 3 D 17 that I picked up last Friday.  The one on the left is what I call a normal generator off a D 17.
What's the deal with the odd end of the generator on the right.  Is this a generator for a D 17 diesel that would run the power steering pump or have the extra end on it to be used without the power steering unit?  2nd and 3rd pictures are close ups of the 2 generators.

Extended shaft unit. Used for auxiliary drive accessory. What you see is just the cap/cover for the end of the shaft. Common. You may not see as many in AG Apps. as you would in Industrial Apps.
