The early 190 I have has an air cleaner tube that sticks up thru the hood. I know that the 190's did not have that originally. How is this supposed to be plumbed up?

Some did. It had a Donaldson plastic pre-cleaner on top of the pipe.

Yes, it is optional equipment. Some have them, mine doesn't.
