Hello everyone,
I am brand new to the forum, I had a question about a WD45 I recently purchased. I have never owned an Allis until now. I found the serial number WD223242. I wasn't able to find what year it would be or any information online about that serial number. It needs a little TLC but I bought it for a project for my 12 year old son and I to work together on.Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance guys!

Welcome to the forum Cody. You've come to the right place. The guys on this forum are more than eager to help and are a wealth of knowledge. There is someone here that can answer any question you may have about the "orange" stuff. Never hesitate to ask a question.
If I'm reading the chart correctly, yours is a 1956. You bought a great tractor. It will be a great project for you and your son, some great quality time with him.
One thing about this forum, we love pictures. Lot and lots of pictures. We like to see the progress that you make.
Enjoy the project and the time you spend with your son. That time is priceless.

Cody, Let me second what Grayray said and Welcome. The 45 was a very good tractor. Have done a couple in the last few years I have found good repro parts and good used parts too. We need some pictures! Good luck with your project and have fun with your son! Regards, Chris |

Thank you both for the timely response, I appreciate it. It is nice to have everyone so welcoming, very refreshing. I will probably be asking frequent questions and post pictures. My son is very excited to start working on the wd45. Cant beat quality time.

Whereabouts in KY are you? I live in Radcliff and have a 1949 WD and a 1953 WD45. I'm sure you'll both enjoy the tractor and the time spent together. Welcome to the forum and ask away. The only cost to ask questions is some pictures every now and then-LOL.

Hello,
Thank you! I am in London Ky. This may be a ridiculous question however im gonna ask it. I bought this wd45 off a gentleman that was 94 years old original owner. He told me it was diesel however after taking the glass sediment bowl off for the fuel I think he may have been running gas in it. How do I tell if he was accurate with it being a diesel or if it was switched to gas? The engine block has AM 3852-14 it's a 1956. Thanks in advance and sorry if that's a silly question never owned an allis and want to get it right.

The WD45 diesel is a 6 cylinder engine. Otherwise a 4 cylinder gas engine

Cody, The 45 Diesel has a distinctive longer nose/ hood than a gas job. As mentioned 6 cyl diesel and 4 cyl gas. The block casting numbers may mean something to some one but not to me. Blocks / engines have been know to have been changed several times in a tractors life. Tractor serial number should be stamped on the rear end just below the left brake cover area. Regards, Chris

If it is a gas engine it will have a distributor or magneto with plug wires and spark plugs, I believe on the right side of engine. If a diesel, no plugs or wires, and should have a fuel pump with metal lines on the left side of engine. Diesels came with the sheet metal almost flush with the front of tractor, gas versions had about 10” of nothing from front of tractor back to grill.
Diesels also had gauges mounted on top of the hood.
Anything is possible on a tractor this old, it could be diesel, or it could have been at one time, and a gas engine installed at some point. Or even a combine gas engine that is a 6 cylinder installed.
Look for plug wires vs fuel pump and the sheet metal, if it goes flush to front of tractor or has a lot of space from front end to radiator. Also look for carburetor on a gas.
And post pictures. That would be a tremendous help to us to help you identify what you have.

gas engine with coil, distributor, spark plugs, and oil filter shown on right side of tractor. Short hood and radiator sets BEHIND the front axle / frame.
