I am looking for a NOS set of 444 baler knives to borrow for patterns to have new ones reproduced. I would return them promptly when the shop is finished with them. The part numbers are 70541297 for the ram knife and 70541202 for the stationary knife. I am not sure how many other models they cross into, but the online parts book seems to indicate 302 and 303 as well. Any help would be appreciated.

As a first for me, something that started out simple has taken a complicated turn. The shop in town I had looking at making baler knives mentioned that they can not edge harden the new knives and would have to harden the entire knife. I am leery of that because I was actually able to save my knives after a dead impact because they could be bent back and straightened. If they were through hardened my fear is they might have cracked instead.
I know it is a long short, but looking for leads on a firm that could edge harden the plunger knives from a baler (flame or induction).

It it the steel and the process. That is the problem. Make the out of S7, harden and draw them back to the mid 50's and they will be fine. Tracy

Tracy meant S7 steel. It's a shock resistant tool steel.
