I have been looking for an unstyled WC for awhile now. I found one a couple hours from me. The guy said he did not have any pictures but it was a complete nice original tractor. Engine is stuck and the block has been welded. Said it needed rims also. He said he bought it from the original owners son and knows the tractors history. Classic ran when parked story. I wouldn't mind having this but think his price may be a bit high. What is the going rate for an unstyled WC that needs a lot of work? He did say the tin was good. Some dings but very little rust. I need to feel him out a little before I drive up there to look at it.

I got a stuck unstyled for $350. The tin was rough overall, but it had good rear round spoke rims, good round spoke fronts (not original, welded, but did a good job) and excellent fenders. I would look at it this way. You're going to have atleast: $250 in rear rims, $100 in a block, who knows how much in a re-build, along with any other random parts that are no good once you get the tractor. I would say $200 or $300 would be about as high as I would go.
I also bought another one with very good tin, but no fenders and bad rear rims.. took the good parts from the other tractor I described above and made one good one.. this one started up after sitting for over 30 years.. only took a few pulls, now it runs like a charm with only a rebuilt carb.. I only paid $250 for it but I bought it from my grandpa :)

I sold a pretty nice one a year ago that had an miss on the #1 cylinder and a leaking rear main for $700. I bought a 1935 with all the correct parts on it, new rear tires, a starter and a two row cultivator for $750 at auction. You should be able to find a pretty decent one that is running for under $1000.
Every collector should have a WC, but one is enough.

I paid $1000 for my 1936 with all new paint and running great and $250 for my 1934 with spoke wheels not running(just needed a mag) complete except for fenders.

Thats what I was thinking. This guy wants 500.00 He said he was firm on the price. I told him to try and send me some could pictures and asked what else he had laying around. Maybe I can make a package deal on a few items to make it worth my while.

Yea i would say $500 is a little high for that. There are just a lot of unkown variables. The one I bought that had a stuck engine was purchased as a tractor "that had run last year" I bought it just for the rims and fenders so I didn't care a whole lot, but got it home and tore into the engine and there was such a thick layer of junk inside that engine there is no way it has run in the last 10 years plus. It worked out okay though I guess

Hi Jesse - my thoughts: $500 DOES seem high but not hugely so. Suppose it's worth $300 and you pay $500. That's $200 "too much" and that seems like a lot. BUT.... through in all the other costs you'll run up rehabbing that tractor and $200 over on the initial purchase won't look like so much. In my view there's no economic justification for buying a 70 year-old machine for $x, spending the money and time to bring it back to life, and then selling for it will bring.....almost surely a loss. I'm sure that there are a few on here who make a living buying/fixing/selling Orange iron, but for most of us it's a hobby.......and hobbies aren't known for making money! Enjoy bringing that (or some other) WC back to life. Okay....I'm stepping down off the soapbox now!!!

The problem with this one I am looking at is the guy can't send photos. I hate to drive two or three hours for something if it isn't what I am looking for. Hell, it might not even be a WC. I have two flat top WC's for sale. One is a 1938 new tires frount and rear. Older repaint, looks good. Engine starts and runs good. No smoke good oil preasure. The second one is a 1936 Runs good looks good one new rear tire one not. The tractor has been repainted. If interested reply for pics. and prices.

My dad has an early unstyled WC for sale in NY. The block is welded but the old girl still runs. Sheet metal is all there and solid but does have some dents. It has spoke wheels all around including 17" up front with new rubber. Call him at (518) 284-2188 about price,etc
