 Topic: Allis CA front crank seal replacement

Can anyone tell me how to change the front crank seal in a Allis CA ? Can I do it from the front? What do I need to remove to get at it? Any tips or tricks putting it back in. I just purchased it last weekend and low and behold a oil leak from the front crank. So can anyone help me out.

You pry will have to take the timing cover off, I am almost to that point on mine.

I'm pretty sure I had to take the front bolster off to get the timing cover off. when you put it back on the cover needs to be adjusted so the seal is centered on the crank pulley or it'll leak and you'll be bpulling it apart again. the second time I did mine I ran it with the hood radaitor and alternator removed so I could check it before completly reassembeling it.

If there is a groove worn in crank or even if there isn't, a SKF speedi sleeve #99150 installed on the crankshaft is good insurance against a leaky new front seal.

With the speedy slave would I use the same seal? I surely don't want to do this twice even though it is a good way to get to know my tractor. I don't have a good manual so I will be attacking this blind. Every time I run into something, I have to order parts, so I guess what I'm asking is if there is a list of parts for this tractor, that I could use as a reference to order in advance. Also, am I wrong in using a seal puller to remove the old seal, and then driving the new seal in? If anyone knows the answer or a more complete picture on how to finish the job, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

The sleeve is nice and its not thick enough to require changing the seal inside diameter.
An alternative to sleeving the grooved pulley shank or shaft (engines have been built both ways) is to use some adhesive like black Permatex to hold the seal some distance from seating in the timing cover. Then the seal rides on a fresh surface. Did that to my dad's 1954 Ford (the first car he ever bought new) and it worked fine.

Well I removed the hood the radiator and the front end and pulled the old leaky seal out no problem to this point. I opened up the new seal package and of coarse it is the 2.01" od instead of the 1.9375" # 70225806 Now I am looking all over the net for this seal does it even exist? If anyone knows were I can get one or two would you please let me know? I am trying to get it in my hands by next weekend. So depressing to get so far and be held up by not having the parts. Thank You ....

The CE engine has two seals; you have my luck. Contact Sandy Lake and they can provide the right one.

I think I am going to have to do the same with my front seal. My 1956 CA is leaking a little. So will I have to pull off the timing cover or just the front pully and tap a new one in from the outside?

I am from the land of the big cheese! Green Bay, Wisconsin . It looks like when I find one of these golden seals, AC part # 70225806 I will be able to tap it back in, the old one came out with a seal puller with no problem at all. The number on the old seal has a stamp cr 225006 which I also spent all night searching the web for with no luck, So that leaves me depending on my friends here on the forum. It is Sunday so I will call around Monday. I will let everybody know were I got it from when I find one. I am gonna buy two one for dropsy's if you know what I mean.
