question for all you electron experts. I have had a rebuilt original D15II gen and new matched VR on my 15 Diamond in the rough. It has never shown a charge or discharge. I r&r VR cleaning/shining up how it's bolted to the battery box frame. I have removed the gen. I'd like to test the gen but the local shop isn't open till Mon and I don't want to wait. lol Any easy way for me to check and see if she's puttin' out correctly or should I work on something else 'till Mon?

Hook the generator to a battery (A and frame). With the field open it should run about 1500 RPM. Connect the field and it should run slower but have more torque.
Check as a generator with a motor. With the field connected it should generate voltage. How much depends on the details of the design and the shaft speed. Ammeters can fail with the pointer pivots rusted fast. Check the ammeter by turning on the lights without the generator or without the engine running. If the lights light and there's no discharge indication, the ammeter is bad or not connected. Ammeters are cheaper than generators. And a better indicator of circuit function than a voltmeter. So if you had the generator rebuilt and put a new VR on, did you flash(polarize) the generator before running it?

One of those headlights you removed is a decent test. Or a spare headlight lamp. Wire it to the terminal of the ammeter away from the battery wire.

Many thanks as usual for the help! Thank you Gerald and Carl and Charlie. I fired her up after cleaning and reassembling everything and tracing wires. She went right up at charge to 10, then came back eventually to just positive. Lovin' it! Thanks again amigos!
