Came across a decent looking 8550. How reliable are they? Looking to hear any experiences good or bad on these. Do they have common parts to any other Allis's. Are parts still available for these?

I like mine. Lots of muscle. I think if you buy right they'll hold their value too.Check the drive line to see if the updates have been done. What year?-the early ones -1977- needed engine updates I understand-the fact yours is still running means they must have got them.
The shift cables are notorious for making it difficult to get into gear. If that's the problem new ones make a huge difference (and they're available). Transmission brake is often over used and worn out and makes shifting difficult. All the filters are still available. How many hrs? Keep the revs below the max by a couple of 100-better yet-get the inj pump set up to a lower rev max. Does it have 3 pt and stadium package? If you want PM me and I'll tell what I know-which is a lot less than some others on here. |

Get the pump set like a 4w-305. They are as reliable as any Allis, very strong pullers, came standard with pto and fenders while the other colors were "optional". Detuned 844 Allis diesel, very good tractors overall. Problem is they were usually overpulled, but they would take it for years and keep running. In these parts they sell for $10000 , in my opinion, alot of tractor for the money, Trev.
